Genesis 19 19 quia invenit servus tuus gratiam coram te, et magnificasti misericordiam tuam quam fecisti mecum, ut salvares animam meam, nec possum in monte salvari, ne forte apprehendat me malum, et moriar : Because thy servant hath found grace before thee, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewn to me, in saving my life, and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil seize me, and I die.

And Laban and Bathuel answered: The word hath proceeded from the Lord: we cannot speak any other thing to thee but his pleasure.

That thou do us no harm, as we on our part have touched nothing of thine, nor have done any thing to hurt thee; but with peace have sent thee away, increased with the blessing of the Lord.

For I cannot return to my father without the boy, lest I be a witness of the calamity that will oppress my father.

And the officers of the children of Israel saw that they were in evil case, because it was said to them: There shall not a whit be diminished of the bricks for every day.
Shall not see the land for which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any one of them that hath detracted me behold it.
Numbers 32 11 Si videbunt homines isti, qui ascenderunt ex Aegypto a viginti annis et supra, terram, quam sub juramento pollicitus sum Abraham, Isaac, et Jacob : et noluerunt sequi me, If these men, that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land, which I promised with an oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: because they would not follow me, εἰ ὄψονται οἱ ἄνθρωποι οὗτοι οἱ ἀναβάντες ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω, οἱ ἐπιστάμενοι τὸ ἀγαθὸν καὶ τὸ κακὸν, τὴν γῆν ἣν ὤμοσα τῷ Ἁβραὰμ καὶ Ἰσαὰκ καὶ Ἰακὼβ, οὐ γὰρ συνεπηκολούθησαν ὀπίσω μου·
But if you do not what you say, no man can doubt but you sin against God: and know ye, that your sin shall overtake you.
Your children, of whom you said that they should be led away captives, and your sons who know not this day the difference of good and evil, they shall go in: and to them I will give the land, and they shall possess it.
And utterly destroy him out of all the tribes of Israel, according to the curses that are contained in the book of this law and covenant: Καὶ διαστελεῖ αὐτὸν Κύριος εἰς κακὰ ἐκ πάντων υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ, κατὰ πάσας τὰς ἀρὰς τῆς διαθήκης τὰς γεγραμμένας ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ τοῦ νόμου τούτου.
Deuteronomy 30 15 Considera quod hodie proposuerim in conspectu tuo, vitam et bonum, et e contrario mortem et malum : Consider that I have set before thee this day life and good, and on the other hand death and evil:
And my wrath shall be kindled against them in that day: and I will forsake them, and will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured: all evils and afflictions shall find them, so that they shall say in that day: In truth it is because God is not with me, that these evils have found me.

For I know that, after my death, you will do wickedly, and will quickly turn aside form the way that I have commanded you: and evils shall come upon you in the latter times, when you shall do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him by the works of your hands.
Deuteronomy 32 23 Congregabo super eos mala, et sagittas meas complebo in eis. I will heap evils upon them, and will spend my arrows among them.
But whithersoever they meant to go, the hand of the Lord was upon them, as he had said, and as he had sworn to them: and they were greatly distressed.
And Gedeon said to him: I beseech thee, my lord, if the Lord be with us, why have these evils fallen upon us? Where are his miracles, which our fathers have told us of, saying: The Lord brought us out of Egypt but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hand of Madian.
But you this day have rejected your God, who only hath saved you out of all your evils and your tribulations: and you have said: Nay: but set a king over us. Now therefore stand before the Lord by your tribes, and by your families.
May the Lord do so and so to Jonathan, and add still more. But if my father shall continue in malice against thee, I will discover it to thy ear, and will send thee away, that thou mayst go in peace, and the Lord be with thee, as he hath been with my father.
And he said to David: Thou art more just than I: for thou hast done good to me, and I have rewarded thee with evil.
Now therefore, my lord, the Lord liveth, and thy soul liveth, who hath withholden thee from coming to blood, and hath saved thy hand to thee: and now let thy enemies be as Nabal, and all they that seek evil to my lord.
And when David had heard that Nabal was dead, he said: Blessed be the Lord, who hath judged the cause of my reproach, at the hand of Nabal, and hath kept his servant from evil, and the Lord hath returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his head. Then David sent and treated with Abigail, that he might take her to himself for a wife. <div class=''p'''
Thus saith the Lord: Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thy own house, and I will take thy wives before thy eyes and give them to thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
2_Kings 12 18 Accidit autem die septima ut moreretur infans : timueruntque servi David nuntiare ei quod mortuus esset parvulus : dixerunt enim : Ecce cum parvulus adhuc viveret, loquebamur ad eum, et non audiebat vocem nostram : quanto magis si dixerimus : Mortuus est puer, se affliget ? And it came to pass on the seventh day that the child died: and the servants of David feared to tell him, that the child was dead. For they said: Behold when the child was yet alive, we spoke to him, and he would not hearken to our voice: how much more will he afflict himself if we tell him that the child is dead? Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ, καὶ ἀπέθανε τὸ παιδάριον· καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν οἱ δοῦλοι Δαυὶδ ἀναγγεῖλαι αὐτῷ, ὅτι τέθνηκε τὸ παιδάριον, ὅτι εἶπον, ἰδοὺ ἐν τῷ τὸ παιδάριον ἔτι ζῇν ἐλαλήσαμεν πρὸς αὐτὸν, καὶ οὐκ εἰσήκουσε τῆς φωνῆς ἡμῶν· καὶ πῶς εἴπωμεν πρὸς αὐτὸν ὅτι τέθνηκε τὸ παιδάριον, καὶ ποιήσει κακά;
And Absalom, and all the men of Israel said: The counsel of Chusai the Arachite is better than the counsel of Achitophel: and by the will of the Lord the profitable counsel of Achitophel was defeated, that the Lord might bring evil upon Absalom.
Now therefore arise, and go out, and speak to the satisfaction of thy servants: for I swear to thee by the Lord, that if thou wilt not go forth, there will not tarry with thee so much as one this night: and that will be worse to thee, than all the evils that have befallen thee from thy youth until now.

2_Kings 19 35 Octogenarius sum hodie : numquid vigent sensus mei ad discernendum suave aut amarum ? aut delectare potest servum tuum cibus et potus ? vel audire possum ultra vocem cantorum atque cantatricum ? quare servus tuus sit oneri domino meo regi ? I am this day fourscore years old, are my senses quick to discern sweet and bitter? or can meat or drink delight thy servant? or can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? why should thy servant be a burden to my lord, the king? Υἱὸς ὀγδοήκοντα ἐτῶν ἐγώ εἰμι σήμερον· εἰ μὴν γνώσομαι ἀναμέσον ἀγαθοῦ καὶ κακοῦ; εἰ γεύσεται ὁ δοῦλός σου ἔτι ὃ φάγομαι ἢ πίομαι; ἢ ἀκούσομαι ἔτι φωνὴν ᾀδόντων καὶ ᾀδουσῶν; καὶ ἱνατί ἔσται ἔτι ὁ δοῦλός σου εἰς φορτίον ἐπὶ τὸν κύριόν μου τὸν βασιλέα;
3_Kings 3 9 Dabis ergo servo tuo cor docile, ut populum tuum judicare possit, et discernere inter bonum et malum. Quis enim poterit judicare populum istum, populum tuum hunc multum ? Give therefore to thy servant an understanding heart, to judge thy people, and discern between good and evil. For who shall be able to judge this people, thy people, which is so numerous? Καὶ δώσεις τῷ δούλῳ σου καρδίαν ἀκούειν καὶ διακρίνειν τὸν λαόν σου ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ, καὶ τοῦ συνιεῖν ἀναμέσον ἀγαθοῦ καὶ κακοῦ· ὅτι τίς δυνηθήσεται κρίνειν τὸν λαόν σου τὸν βαρὺν τοῦτον;
3_Kings 20 21 Necnon egressus rex Israel percussit equos et currus, et percussit Syriam plaga magna. But the king of Israel going out overthrew the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.
And the king of Israel said to Josaphat. There is one man left, by whom we may inquire of the Lord; Micheas, the son of Jemla: but I hate him, for he doth not prophecy good to me, but evil. And Josaphat said: Speak not so, O king.
3_Kings 22 18 (Dixit ergo rex Israel ad Josaphat : Numquid non dixi tibi, quia non prophetat mihi bonum, sed semper malum ?) (Then the king of Israel said to Josaphat: Did I not tell thee, that he prophesieth no good to me, but always evil?) Καὶ εἶπε βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς Ἰωσαφὰτ βασιλέα Ἰούδα, οὐκ εἶπα πρὸς σε, ὅτι οὐ προφητεύει οὗτός μοι καλὰ, διότι ἀλλʼ ἢ κακά;
Now, therefore, behold the Lord hath given a lying spirit in the mouth of all thy prophets that are here, and the Lord hath spoken evil against thee.
4_Kings 8 12 Cui Hazael ait : Quare dominus meus flet ? At ille dixit : Quia scio quae facturus sis filiis Israel mala. Civitates eorum munitas igne succendes, et juvenes eorum interficies gladio, et parvulos eorum elides, et praegnantes divides. And Hazael said to him: Why doth my lord weep? And he said: Because I know the evil that thou wilt do to the children of Israel. Their strong cities thou wilt burn with fire, and their young men thou wilt kill with the sword, and thou wilt dash their children, and rip up their pregnant women.
And the king of Israel said to Josaphat: There is one man, of whom we may ask the will of the Lord: but I hate him, for he never prophesieth good to me, but always evil: and it is Micheas the son of Jemla. And Josaphat said: Speak not thus, O king.

If evils fall upon us, the sword of judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand in thy presence before this house, in which thy name is called upon: and we will cry to thee in our afflictions, and thou wilt hear, and save us.

Sic faciebat Job cunctis diebus. And when the days of their feasting were gone about, Job sent to them, and sanctified them: and rising up early, offered holocausts for every one of them. For he said: Lest perhaps my sons have sinned, and have blessed God in their hearts. So did Job all days.
And the Lord said to Satan: Hast thou considered my servant, Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a man simple and upright, and fearing God, and avoiding evil, and still keeping his innocence? But thou hast moved me against him, that I should afflict him without cause.
In omnibus his non peccavit Job labiis suis. And he said to her: Thou hast spoken like one of the foolish women: If we have received good things at the hand of God, why should we not receive evil? In all these things Job did not sin with his lips.
Now when Job's three friends heard all the evil that had befallen him, they came every one from his own place, Eliphaz, the Themanite, and Baldad, the Suhite, and Sophar, the Naamathite. For they had made an appointment to come together and visit him, and comfort him.
Job 4 12 Porro ad me dictum est verbum absconditum, et quasi furtive suscepit auris mea venas susurri ejus. Now there was a word spoken to me in private, and my ears by stealth, as it were, received the veins of its whisper. Εἰ δέ τι ῥῆμα ἀληθινὸν ἐγεγόνει ἐν λόγοις σου, οὐθὲν ἄν σοι τούτων κακὸν ἀπήντησε· πότερον οὐ δέξεταί μου τὸ οὖς ἐξαίσια παρʼ αὐτοῦ;

Proverbs 1 28 tunc invocabunt me, et non exaudiam ; mane consurgent, et non invenient me : Then shall they call upon me, and I will not hear: they shall rise in the morning, and shall not find me: Ἔσται γὰρ ὅταν ἐπικαλέσησθέ με, ἐγὼ δὲ οὐκ εἰσακούσομαι ὑμῶν· ζητήσουσί με κακοὶ, καὶ οὐχ εὑρήσουσιν.
Proverbs 3 7 Ne sis sapiens apud temetipsum ; time Deum, et recede a malo : Be not wise in thy own conceit: fear God, and depart from evil: Μὴ ἴσθι φρόνιμος παρὰ σεαυτῷ, φοβοῦ δὲ τὸν Θεὸν, καὶ ἔκκλινε ἀπὸ παντὸς κακοῦ.

Run about, make haste, stir up thy friend:

Isaias 7 16 Quia antequam sciat puer reprobare malum et eligere bonum, derelinquetur terra quam tu detestaris a facie duorum regum suorum. For before the child know to refuse the evil and to choose the good, the land which thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of the face of her two kings.

And I will visit the evils of the world, and against the wicked for their iniquity: and I will make the pride of infidels to cease, and will bring down the arrogancy of the mighty.

Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand the hearing? them that are weaned from the milk, that are drawn away from the breasts.

Yea, when they shall cry also unto him, he shall not hear: he shall not save them from tribulation.

And there fell a sore and grievous wound upon men who had the character of the beast: and upon them that adored the image thereof.
