Where the chariots were dashed together, and the army of the enemies was choked, there let the justices of the Lord be rehearsed, and his clemency towards the brave men of Israel: then the people of the Lord went down to the gates, and obtained the sovereignty.
Out of Ephraim he destroyed them into Amalec, and after him out of Benjamin into thy people, O Amalec: Out of Machir there came down princes, and out of Zabulon they that led the army to fight.
Judges 8 6 Responderunt principes Soccoth : Forsitan palmae manuum Zebee et Salmana in manu tua sunt, et idcirco postulas ut demus exercitui tuo panes. The princes of Soccoth answered: Peradventure the palms of the hands of Zebee and Salmana are in thy hand, and therefore thou demandest that we should give bread to thy army. Καὶ εἶπον οἱ ἄρχοντες Σοκχὼθ, μὴ χεὶρ Ζεβεὲ καὶ Σαλμανὰ νῦν ἐν χειρί σου, ὅτι δώσομεν τῇ δυνάμει σου ἄρτους;
But Zebee and Salmana were resting with all their army. For fifteen thousand men were left of all the troops of the eastern people, and one hundred and twenty thousand warriors that drew the sword were slain.
Would to God that some man would put this people under my hand, that I might remove Abimelech out of the way. And it was said to Abimelech: Gather together the multitude of an army, and come.
Judges 9 34 Surrexit itaque Abimelech cum omni exercitu suo nocte, et tetendit insidias juxta Sichimam in quatuor locis. Abimelech, therefore, arose with all his army, by night, and laid ambushes near Sichem in four places.
And Gaal, the son of Obed, went out, and stood in the entrance of the gate of the city. And Abimelech rose up, and all his army with him, from the places of the ambushes.
Judges 9 43 tulit exercitum suum, et divisit in tres turmas, tendens insidias in agris. Vidensque quod egrederetur populus de civitate, surrexit, et irruit in eos And he took his army, and divided it into three companies, and laid ambushes in the fields. And seeing that the people came out of the city, he arose, and set upon them, Καὶ ἔλαβε τὸν λαὸν, καὶ διεῖλεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τρεῖς ἀρχὰς, καὶ ἐνήδρευσεν ἐν ἀγρῷ· καὶ εἶδε, καὶ ἰδοὺ λαὸς ἐξῆλθεν ἐκ τῆς πόλεως, καὶ ἀνέστη ἐπʼ αὐτοὺς, καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτούς.
Then Abimelech, departing from thence, came to the town of Thebes, which he surrounded and besieged with his army.
Judges 11 21 Tradiditque eum Dominus in manus Israel cum omni exercitu suo : qui percussit eum, et possedit omnem terram Amorrhaei habitatoris regionis illius, And the Lord delivered him, with all his army, into the hands of Israel, and he slew him, and possessed all the land of the Amorrhite, the inhabitant of that country, Καὶ παρέδωκε Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς Ἰσραὴλ τὸν Σηὼν καὶ πάντα τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ἐν χειρὶ Ἰσραὴλ, καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτόν· καὶ ἐκληρονόμησεν Ἰσραὴλ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν τοῦ Ἀμοῤῥαίου τοῦ κατοικοῦντος τὴν γῆν ἐκείνην
Then the Philistines going up into the land of Juda, camped in the place which afterwards was called Lechi, that is, the Jawbone, where their army was spread abroad.
We will take ten men of a hundred out of all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred out of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to bring victuals for the army, that we may fight against Gabaa of Benjamin, and render to it for its wickedness, what it deserveth.
Judges 20 18 Qui surgentes venerunt in domum Dei, hoc est, in Silo : consulueruntque Deum, atque dixerunt : Quis erit in exercitu nostro princeps certaminis contra filios Benjamin ? Quibus respondit Dominus : Judas sit dux vester. And they arose and came to the house of God, that is, to Silo: and they consulted God, and said: Who shall be in our army the first to go to the battle against the children of Benjamin? And the Lord answered them: Let Juda be your leader.
Judges 20 22 Rursum filii Israel et fortitudine et numero confidentes, in eodem loco in quo prius certaverant, aciem direxerunt : Again Israel, trusting in their strength and their number, set their army in array in the same place, where they had fought before: Καὶ ἐνίσχυσαν ἀνῆρ Ἰσραὴλ, καὶ προσέθηκαν συνάψαι παράταξιν ἐν τῷ τόπῳ ὅπου συνῆψαν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ πρώτῃ.
Judges 20 30 et tertia vice, sicut semel et bis, contra Benjamin exercitum produxerunt. And they drew up their army against Benjamin the third time, as they had done the first and second.
Judges 20 33 Omnes itaque filii Israel surgentes de sedibus suis, tetenderunt aciem in loco qui vocatur Baalthamar. Insidiae quoque, quae circa urbem erant, paulatim se aperire coeperunt, Then all the children of Israel rising up out of the places where they were, set their army in battle array, in the place which is called Baalthamar. The ambushes also, which were about the city, began by little and little to come forth, Καὶ πᾶς ἀνὴρ ἀνέστη ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτῶν, καὶ συνῆψαν ἐν Βάαλ Θαμάρ· καὶ τὸ ἔνεδρον Ἰσραὴλ ἐπήρχετο ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ Μαρααγαβέ.
Judges 20 39 Quod cum cernerent filii Israel in ipso certamine positi (putaverunt enim filii Benjamin eos fugere, et instantius persequebantur, caesis de exercitu eorum triginta viris), And when the children of Israel saw this in the battle, (for the children of Benjamin thought they fled, and pursued them vigorously, killing thirty men of their army) Καὶ εἶδον οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ, ὅτι προκατελάβετο τὸ ἔνεδρον τὴν Γαβαὰ, καὶ ἔστησαν ἐν τῇ παρατάξει· καὶ Βενιαμὶν ἤρξατο πατάσσειν τραυματίας ἐν ἀνδράσιν Ἰσραὴλ ὡς τριάκοντα ἄνδρας· ὅτι εἶπαν, πάλιν πτώσει πίπτουσιν ἐνώπιον ἡμῶν ὡς ἡ παράταξις ἡ πρώτη.
Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the army of the Lord? for they had bound themselves with a great oath, when they were in Maspha, that whosoever were wanting should be slain.
Therefore they said: Who is there of all the tribes of Israel, that came not up to the Lord to Maspha? And, behold, the inhabitants of Jabes Galaad were found not to have been in that army.
And put their army in array against Israel. And when they had joined battle, Israel turned their backs to the Philistines: and there were slain in that fight, here and there in the fields, about four thousand men.
And there ran a man of Benjamin out of the army, and came to Silo the same day, with his clothes rent, and his head strewed with dust.
Saul also departed to his own house in Gabaa: and there went with him a part of the army, whose hearts God had touched.
And they forgot the Lord their God, and he delivered them into the hands of Sisara, captain of the army of Hasor, and into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.

And gathering together an army, he defeated Amalec, and delivered Israel from the hand of them that spoiled them.
1_Kings 14 50 Et nomen uxoris Saul Achinoam filia Achimaas : et nomen principis militiae ejus Abner filius Ner, patruelis Saul. And the name of Saul's wife was Achinoam, the daughter of Achimaas; and the name of the captain of his army was Abner, the son of Ner, the cousin german of Saul.
And Saul and the children of Israel being gathered together, came to the valley of Terebinth, and they set the army in array to fight against the Philistines.
David, therefore, arose in the morning, and gave the charge of the flock to the keeper: and went away loaded, as Isai had commanded him. And he came to the place of Magala, and to the army, which was going out to fight, and shouted for the battle. None
1_Kings 17 36 Nam et leonem et ursum interfeci ego servus tuus : erit igitur et Philisthaeus hic incircumcisus quasi unus ex eis. Nunc vadam, et auferam opprobrium populi : quoniam quis est iste Philisthaeus incircumcisus, qui ausus est maledicere exercitui Dei viventis ? For I thy servant have killed both a lion and a bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be also as one of them. I will go now, and take away the reproach of the people: for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, who hath dared to curse the army of the living God? Καὶ τὸν λέοντα καὶ τὴν ἄρκον ἔτυπτεν ὁ δοῦλός σου, καὶ ἔσται ὁ ἀλλόφυλος ὁ ἀπερίτμητος ὡς ἓν τούτων· οὐχὶ πορεύσομαι καὶ πατάξω αὐτὸν, καὶ ἀφελῶ σήμερον ὄνειδος ἐξ Ἰσραήλ; διότι τίς ὁ ἀπερίτμητος οὗτος, ὃς ὠνείδισε παράταξιν Θεοῦ ζῶντος;
1_Kings 17 46 hodie, et dabit te Dominus in manu mea, et percutiam te, et auferam caput tuum a te : et dabo cadavera castrorum Philisthiim hodie volatilibus caeli, et bestiis terrae, ut sciat omnis terra quia est Deus in Israel, This day, and the Lord will deliver thee into my hand, and I will slay thee, and take away thy head from thee: and I will give the carcasses of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air, and to the beasts of the earth: that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
1_Kings 17 55 Eo autem tempore quo viderat Saul David egredientem contra Philisthaeum, ait ad Abner principem militiae : De qua stirpe descendit hic adolescens, Abner ? Dixitque Abner : Vivit anima tua, rex, si novi. Now at the time that Saul saw David going out against the Philistines, he said to Abner, the captain of the army: Of what family is this young man descended, Abner? And Abner said: As thy soul liveth, O king, I know not. None
1_Kings 26 5 Et surrexit David clam, et venit ad locum ubi erat Saul : cumque vidisset locum in quo dormiebat Saul, et Abner filius Ner, princeps militiae ejus, et Saulem dormientem in tentorio, et reliquum vulgus per circuitum ejus, And David arose secretly, and came to the place where Saul was: and when he had beheld the place, wherein Saul slept, and Abner, the son of Ner, the captain of his army, and Saul sleeping in a tent, and the rest of the multitude round about him, Καὶ ἀνέστη Δαυὶδ λάθρα, καὶ εἰσπορεύεται εἰς τὸν τόπον οὗ ἐκάθευδεν ἐκεῖ Σαοὺλ, καὶ ἐκεῖ Ἀβεννὴρ υἱὸς Νὴρ ἀρχιστράτηγος αὐτοῦ· καὶ Σαοὺλ ἐκάθευδεν ἐν λαμπήνῃ, καὶ ὁ λαὸς παρεμβεβληκὼς κύκλῳ αὐτοῦ.
1_Kings 28 5 Et vidit Saul castra Philisthiim, et timuit, et expavit cor ejus nimis. And Saul saw the army of the Philistines, and was afraid, and his heart was very much dismayed.
And the Lord also will deliver Israel with thee into the hands of the Philistines: and to morrow thou and thy sons shall be with me: and the Lord will also deliver the army of Israel into the hands of the Philistines.
Then Achis called David, and said to him: As the Lord liveth, thou art upright and good in my sight: and so is thy going out, and thy coming in with me in the army: and I have not found any evil in thee, since the day that thou camest to me unto this day: but thou pleasest not the lords.
2_Kings 2 8 Abner autem filius Ner, princeps exercitus Saul, tulit Isboseth filium Saul, et circumduxit eum per castra, But Abner the son of Ner, general of Saul's army, took Isboseth the son of Saul, and led him about through the camp, Καὶ Ἀβεννὴρ υἱὸς Νὴρ ἀρχιστράτηγος τοῦ Σαοὺλ ἔλαβε τὸν Ἰεβοσθὲ υἱὸν Σαοὺλ, καὶ ἀνεβίβασεν αὐτὸν ἐκ τῆς παρεμβολῆς εἰς Μαναὲμ,
Then Joab sounded the trumpet, and all the army stood still, and did not pursue after Israel any farther, nor fight any more.
And Joab and all the army that was with him, came afterwards: and it was told Joab, that Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he hath sent him away, and he is gone in peace.
2_Kings 5 24 Et cum audieris sonitum gradientis in cacumine pyrorum, tunc inibis praelium : quia tunc egredietur Dominus ante faciem tuam, ut percutiat castra Philisthiim. And when thou shalt hear the sound of one going in the tops of the pear trees, then shalt thou join battle: for then will the Lord go out before thy face to strike the army of the Philistines.
2_Kings 8 16 Joab autem filius Sarviae erat super exercitum : porro Josaphat filius Ahilud erat a commentariis : And Joab the son Sarvia was over the army: and Josaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder: Καὶ Ἰωὰβ υἱὸς Σαρουίας ἐπὶ τῆς στρατιᾶς· καὶ Ἰωσαφὰτ υἱὸς Ἀχιλοὺδ ἐπὶ τῶν ὑπομνημάτων·

And the people of Israel were defeated there by David's army, and a great slaughter was made that day of twenty thousand men.
And say ye to Amasa: Art not thou my bone, and my flesh? So do God to me and add more, if thou be not the chief captain of the army before me always in the place of Joab.
2_Kings 20 23 Fuit ergo Joab super omnem exercitum Israel : Banaias autem filius Jojadae super Cerethaeos et Phelethaeos : So Joab was over all the army of Israel: and Banaias the son of Joiada was over the Cerethites and Phelethites, Καὶ ὁ Ἰωὰβ πρὸς πάσῃ τῇ δυνάμει Ἰσραήλ· καὶ Βαναίας υἱὸς Ἰωδαὲ ἐπὶ τοῦ Χερεθὶ, καὶ ἐπὶ τοῦ Φελεθί·
2_Kings 24 2 Dixitque rex ad Joab principem exercitus sui : Perambula omnes tribus Israel a Dan usque Bersabee, et numerate populum, ut sciam numerum ejus. And the king said to Joab the general of his army: Go through all the tribes of Israel from Dan to Bersabee, and number ye the people that I may know the number of them.
But the king's words prevailed over the words of Joab, and of the captains of the army: and Joab, and the captains of the soldiers went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.
But Sadoc, the priest, and Banaias, the son of Joiada, and Nathan, the prophet, and Semei, and Rei, and the strength of David's army, was not with Adonias.
He hath killed oxen, and all fat cattle, and many rams, and invited all the king's sons, and Abiathar, the priest, and Joab, the general of the army: but Solomon, thy servant, he invited not.
3_Kings 1 25 Quia descendit hodie, et immolavit boves, et pinguia, et arietes plurimos, et vocavit universos filios regis et principes exercitus, Abiathar quoque sacerdotem, illisque vescentibus et bibentibus coram eo, et dicentibus : Vivat rex Adonias : Because he is gone down to day, and hath killed oxen, and fatlings, and many rams, and invited all the king's sons, and the captains of the army, and Abiathar the priest: and they are eating and drinking before him, and saying: God save king Adonias: Ὅτι κατέβη σήμερον, καὶ ἐθυσίασε μόσχους καὶ ἄρνας καὶ πρόβατα εἰς πλῆθος, καὶ ἐκάλεσε πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς τοῦ βασιλέως, καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας τῆς δυνάμεως, καὶ Ἀβιάθαρ τὸν ἱερέα· καὶ ἰδού εἰσιν ἐσθίοντες καὶ πίνοντες ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ, καὶ εἶπαν, ζήτω ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἀδωνίας.
Thou knowest also what Joab, the son of Sarvia, hath done to me, what he did to the two captains of the army of Israel, to Abner, the son of Ner, and to Amasa, the son of Jether: whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war on his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet.
3_Kings 2 32 Et reddet Dominus sanguinem ejus super caput ejus, quia interfecit duos viros justos, melioresque se : et occidit eos gladio, patre meo David ignorante, Abner filium Ner principem militiae Israel, et Amasam filium Jether principem exercitus Juda : And the Lord shall return his blood upon his own head; because he murdered two men, just and better than himself: and slew them with the sword, my father, David, not knowing it; Abner, the son of Ner, general of the army of Israel, and Amasa, the son of Jether general of the army of Juda; Καὶ ἐπέστρεψε Κύριος τὸ αἷμα τῆς ἀδικίας αὐτοῦ εἰς κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ, ὡς ἀπήντησε τοῖς δυσὶν ἀνθρώποις τοῖς δικαίοις καὶ ἀγαθοῖς ὑπὲρ αὐτὸν, καὶ ἀπέκτεινεν αὐτοὺς ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ, καὶ ὁ πατήρ μου Δαυὶδ οὐκ ἔγνω τὸ αἷμα αὐτῶν, τὸν Ἀβεννὴρ υἱὸν Νὴρ ἀρχιστράτηγον Ἰσραὴλ, καὶ τὸν Ἀμεσσὰ υἱὸν Ἰεθὲρ ἀρχιστράτηγον Ἰούδα.
3_Kings 2 32 Et reddet Dominus sanguinem ejus super caput ejus, quia interfecit duos viros justos, melioresque se : et occidit eos gladio, patre meo David ignorante, Abner filium Ner principem militiae Israel, et Amasam filium Jether principem exercitus Juda : And the Lord shall return his blood upon his own head; because he murdered two men, just and better than himself: and slew them with the sword, my father, David, not knowing it; Abner, the son of Ner, general of the army of Israel, and Amasa, the son of Jether general of the army of Juda; Καὶ ἐπέστρεψε Κύριος τὸ αἷμα τῆς ἀδικίας αὐτοῦ εἰς κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ, ὡς ἀπήντησε τοῖς δυσὶν ἀνθρώποις τοῖς δικαίοις καὶ ἀγαθοῖς ὑπὲρ αὐτὸν, καὶ ἀπέκτεινεν αὐτοὺς ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ, καὶ ὁ πατήρ μου Δαυὶδ οὐκ ἔγνω τὸ αἷμα αὐτῶν, τὸν Ἀβεννὴρ υἱὸν Νὴρ ἀρχιστράτηγον Ἰσραὴλ, καὶ τὸν Ἀμεσσὰ υἱὸν Ἰεθὲρ ἀρχιστράτηγον Ἰούδα.
And the king appointed Banaias, the son of Joiada in his room over the army; and Sadoc, the priest, he put in the place of Abiathar.
3_Kings 4 4 Banaias filius Jojadae super exercitum : Sadoc autem et Abiathar sacerdotes : Banaias, the son of Joiada, over the army: and Sadoc, and Abiathar, priests.
For when David was in Edom, and Joab, the general of the army, was gone up to bury them that were slain, and had killed every male in Edom, Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ἐξολοθρεῦσαι Δαυὶδ τὸν Ἐδὼμ ἐν τῷ πορευθῆναι Ἰωὰβ ἄρχοντα τῆς στρατιᾶς θάπτειν τοὺς τραυματίας, καὶ ἔκοψαν πᾶν ἀρσενικὸν ἐν τῇ Ἰδουμαίᾳ·
And when Adad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab, the general of the army, was dead, he said to Pharao: Let me depart, that I may go to my own country.
3_Kings 15 20 Acquiescens Benadad regi Asa, misit principes exercitus sui in civitates Israel, et percusserunt Ahion, et Dan, et Abeldomum Maacha, et universam Cenneroth, omnem scilicet terram Nephthali. Benadad, hearkening to king Asa, sent the captains of his army against the cities of Israel, and they smote Ahion, and Dan, and Abeldomum Maacha, and all Cenneroth; that is all the land of Nephthali.
3_Kings 16 15 Anno vigesimo septimo Asa regis Juda, regnavit Zambri septem diebus in Thersa : porro exercitus obsidebat Gebbethon urbem Philisthinorum. In the seven and twentieth year of Asa, king of Juda, Zambri reigned seven days in Thersa: now the army was besieging Gebbethon, a city of the Philistines.
3_Kings 20 19 Egressi sunt ergo pueri principum provinciarum, ac reliquus exercitus sequebatur : So the servants of the princes of the provinces went out, and the rest of the army followed: Καὶ λαλήσεις πρὸς αὐτὸν, λέγων, τάδε λέγει Κύριος, ὡς σὺ ἐφόνευσας καὶ ἐκληρονόμησας, διὰ τοῦτο τάδε λέγει Κύριος, ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ ᾧ ἔλειξαν αἱ ὗες καὶ οἱ κύνες τὸ αἷμα Ναβουθαὶ, ἐκεῖ λείξουσιν οἱ κύνες τὸ αἷμά σου, καὶ αἱ πόρναι λούσονται ἐν τῷ αἵματί σου.
3_Kings 20 24 Tu ergo verbum hoc fac : amove reges singulos ab exercitu tuo, et pone principes pro eis : Do thou, therefore, this thing: Remove all the kings from thy army, and put captains in their stead: Τὸν τεθνηκότα τοῦ Ἀχαὰβ ἐν τῇ πόλει φάγονται οἱ κύνες, καὶ τὸν τεθνηκότα αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ φάγονται τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ.
3_Kings 22 19 Ille vero addens, ait : Propterea audi sermonem Domini : vidi Dominum sedentem super solium suum, et omnem exercitum caeli assistentem ei a dextris et a sinistris : And he added and said: Hear thou, therefore, the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on the right hand and on the left: Καὶ εἶπε Μιχαίας, οὐχ οὕτως· οὐκ ἐγώ· ἄκουε ῥῆμα Κυρίου· οὐχ οὕτως.
At ille dixit aurigae suo : Verte manum tuam, et ejice me de exercitu, quia graviter vulneratus sum. And a certain man bent his bow, shooting at a venture, and chanced to strike the king of Israel, between the lungs and the stomach. But he said to the driver of his chariot: Turn thy hand, and carry me out of the army, for I am grievously wounded.
3_Kings 22 36 et praeco insonuit in universo exercitu antequam sol occumberet, dicens : Unusquisque revertatur in civitatem, et in terram suam. And the herald proclaimed through all the army, before the sun set, saying: Let every man return to his own city, and to his own country.
So the king of Israel, and the king of Juda, and the king of Edom, went, and they fetched a compass of seven days journey, and there was no water for the army, and for the beasts, that followed them.
He said to his servant: Say to her: Behold, thou hast diligently served us in all things; what wilt thou have me to do for thee? Hast thou any business, and wilt thou, that I speak to the king, or to the general of the army? And she answered: I dwell in the midst of my own people.
Naaman, general of the army, of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable: for by him the Lord gave deliverance to Syria: and he was a valiant man, and rich, but a leper.
Therefore, he sent thither horses, and chariots, and the strength of an army: and they came by night, and beset the city.
4_Kings 6 15 Consurgens autem diluculo minister viri Dei, egressus vidit exercitum in circuitu civitatis, et equos et currus : nuntiavitque ei, dicens : Heu ! heu ! heu ! domine mi : quid faciemus ? And the servant of the man of God, rising early went out, and saw an army round about the city, and horses and chariots: and he told him, saying: Alas, alas, alas, my lord, what shall we do? Καὶ ὤρθρισεν ὁ λειτουργὸς Ἐλισαιὲ ἀναστῆναι, καὶ ἐξῆλθε· καὶ ἰδοὺ δύναμις κυκλοῦσα τὴν πόλιν, καὶ ἵππος καὶ ἅρμα· καὶ εἶπε τὸ παιδάριον πρὸς αὐτὸν, ὦ κύριε, πῶς ποιήσομεν;
And it came to pass, after these things, that Benadad, king of Syria, gathered together all his army, and went up and besieged Samaria.
4_Kings 7 6 Siquidem Dominus sonitum audiri fecerat in castris Syriae, curruum, et equorum, et exercitus plurimi : dixeruntque ad invicem : Ecce mercede conduxit adversum nos rex Israel reges Hethaeorum et Aegyptiorum, et venerunt super nos. For the Lord had made them hear, in the camp of Syria, the noise of chariots, and of horses, and of a very great army: and they said one to another: Behold, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hethites, and of the Egyptians; and they are come upon us.
At ille dixit : Ad te, o princeps. And went in thither: and behold, the captains of the army were sitting, and he said: I have a word to thee, O prince. And Jehu said: Unto whom of us all? And he said: To thee, O prince.
But Joiada commanded the centurions that were over the army, and said to them: Have her forth without the precinct of the temple, and whosoever shall follow her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest had said: Let her not be slain in the temple of the Lord.
And the king of the Assyrians sent Tharthan, and Rabsaris, and Rabsaces, from Lachis, to king Ezechias, with a strong army, to Jerusalem: and they went up and came to Jerusalem, and they stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the way of the fuller's field.
And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the valiant men of the army, to the number of ten thousand, into captivity: and every artificer and smith: and none were left, but the poor sort of the people of the land.
And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, the tenth day of the month, that Nabuchodonosor, king of Babylon, came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem: and they surrounded it: and raised works round about it.
And the army of the Chaldees pursued after the king, and overtook him in the plains of Jericho: and all the warriors that were with him were scattered, and left him: Καὶ ἐδίωξεν ἡ δύναμις τῶν Χαλδαίων ὀπίσω τοῦ βασιλέως, καὶ κατέλαβον αὐτὸν ἐν Ἀραβὼθ Ἰεριχὼ, καὶ πᾶσα ἡ δύναμις αὐτοῦ διεσπάρη ἐπάνωθεν αὐτοῦ.

And all the army of the Chaldees, which was with the commander of the troops, broke down the walls of Jerusalem round about.
And Nabuzardan, the commander of the army, carried away the rest of the people, that remained in the city, and the fugitives, that had gone over to the king of Babylon, and the remnant of the common people.

4_Kings 25 18 Tulit quoque princeps militiae Saraiam sacerdotem primum, et Sophoniam sacerdotem secundum, et tres janitores. And the general of the army took Seraias, the chief priest, and Sophonias, the second priest, and three doorkeepers: Καὶ ἔλαβεν ὁ ἀρχιμάγειρος τὸν Σαραίαν ἱερέα τὸν πρῶτον, καὶ τὸν Σοφονίαν υἱὸν τῆς δευτερώσεως, καὶ τοὺς τρεῖς τοὺς φυλάσσοντας τὸν σταθμόν.
4_Kings 25 19 Et de civitate eunuchum unum, qui erat praefectus super bellatores viros : et quinque viros de his qui steterant coram rege, quos reperit in civitate : et Sopher principem exercitus, qui probabat tyrones de populo terrae : et sexaginta viros e vulgo, qui inventi fuerant in civitate. And out of the city one eunuch, who was captain over the men of war: and five men of them who had stood before the king, whom he found in the city, and Sopher, the captain of the army, who exercised the young soldiers of the people of the land: and threescore men of the common people, who were found in the city: Καὶ ἐκ τῆς πόλεως ἔλαβον εὐνοῦχον ἕνα, ὅς ἦν ἐπιστάτης τῶν ἀνδρῶν τῶν πολεμιστῶν, καὶ πέντε ἄνδρας τῶν ὁρώντων τὸ πρόσωπον τοῦ βασιλέως τοὺς εὑρεθέντας ἐν τῇ πόλει, καὶ τὸν γραμματέα τοῦ ἄρχοντος τῆς δυνάμεως τὸν ἐκτάσσοντα τὸν λαὸν τῆς γῆς, καὶ ἑξήκοντα ἄνδρας τοῦ λαοῦ τῆς γῆς τοὺς εὑρεθέντας ἐν τῇ πόλει.
4_Kings 25 20 Quos tollens Nabuzardan princeps militum, duxit ad regem Babylonis in Reblatha. These Nabuzardan, the general of the army, took away, and carried them to the king of Babylon, to Reblatha.
1_Paralipomenon 11 26 Porro fortissimi viri in exercitu, Asahel frater Joab, et Elchanan filius patrui ejus de Bethlehem, Moreover the most valiant men of the army, were Asahel brother of Joab, and Elchanan the son of his uncle of Bethlehem, Καὶ δυνατοὶ τῶν δυνάμεων, Ἀσαὴλ ἀδελφὸς Ἰωὰβ, Ἐλεανὰν υἱὸς Δωδωὲ ἐκ Βηθλεὲμ,
These were of the sons of Gad, captains of the army: the least of them was captain over a hundred soldiers, and the greatest over a thousand.
These helped David against the rovers: for they were all most valiant men, and were made commanders in the army.
Moreover day by day there came some to David to help him till they became a great number, like the army of God.
And this is the number of the chiefs of the army who came to David, when he was in Hebron, to transfer to him the kingdom of Saul, according to the word of the Lord.
And when thou shalt hear the sound of one going in the tops of the pear trees, then shalt thou go out to battle. For God is gone out before thee to strike the army of the Philistines.
1_Paralipomenon 14 16 Fecit ergo David sicut praeceperat ei Deus, et percussit castra Philisthinorum, de Gabaon usque Gazera. And David did as God had commanded him, and defeated the army of the Philistines, slaying them from Gabaon to Gazera.
1_Paralipomenon 18 9 Quod cum audisset Thou rex Hemath, percussisse videlicet David omnem exercitum Adarezer regis Soba, Now when Thou king of Hemath heard that David had defeated all the army of Adarezer king of Soba, καὶ ἤκουσε Θωὰ βασιλεὺς Ἠμὰθ, ὅτι ἐπάταξε Δαυὶδ τὴν πᾶσαν δύναμιν Ἀδρααζὰρ βασιλέως Σουβά·
1_Paralipomenon 18 15 Porro Joab filius Sarviae erat super exercitum, et Josaphat filius Ahilud a commentariis : And Joab the son of Sarvia was over the army, and Josaphat the son of Ahilud recorder.
1_Paralipomenon 19 8 Quod cum audisset David, misit Joab, et omnem exercitum virorum fortium : And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the army of valiant men: Καὶ ἤκουσεν Δαυίδ, καὶ απέστειλε τὸν Ἰωὰβ καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν στρατίαν τῶν δυνατῶν.
And the children of Ammon came out and put their army in array before the gate of the city: and the kings, that were come to their aid, stood apart in the field.
But the Syrians seeing that they had fallen before Israel, sent messengers, and brought to them the Syrians that were beyond the river: and Sophach, general of the army of Adarezer, was their leader.
And it was told David, and he gathered together all Israel, and passed the Jordan, and came upon them, and put his army in array against them, and they fought with him.
But the Syrian fled before Israel: and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and Sophach the general of the army.
And it came to pass after the course of a year, at the time that kings go out to battle, Joab gathered together an army and the strength of the troops, and wasted the land of the children of Ammon: and went and besieged Rabba. But David stayed at Jerusalem, when Joab smote Rabba, and destroyed it.
1_Paralipomenon 25 1 Igitur David et magistratus exercitus segregaverunt in ministerium filios Asaph, et Heman, et Idithun, qui prophetarent in citharis, et psalteriis, et cymbalis secundum numerum suum, dedicato sibi officio servientes. Moreover David and the chief officers of the army separated for the ministry the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Idithun: to prophesy with harps, and with psalteries, and with cymbals according to their number serving in their appointed office.
The company of the second month was under Dudia, an Ahohite, and after him was another named Macelloth, who commanded a part of the army of four and twenty thousand.
1_Paralipomenon 27 34 Post Achitophel fuit Jojada filius Banaiae, et Abiathar. Princeps autem exercitus regis erat Joab. And after Achitophel was Joiada the son of Banaias, and Abiathar. And the general of the king's army was Joab. None
And David assembled all the chief men of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies, who waited on the king: and the captains over thousands, and over hundreds, and them who had the charge over the substance and possessions of the king, and his sons with the officers of the court, and the men of power, and all the bravest of the army at Jerusalem.
And all the chief captains of king Solomon's army were two hundred and fifty, who taught the people.
And when Abia had begun battle, and had with him four hundred thousand most valiant and chosen men, Jeroboam put his army in array against him, eight hundred thousand men, who were also chosen and most valiant for war.
Therefore God is the leader in our army, and his priests who sound with trumpets, and resound against you: O children of Israel, fight not against the Lord the God of your fathers, for it is not good for you.
2_Paralipomenon 13 13 Haec illo loquente, Jeroboam retro moliebatur insidias. Cumque ex adverso hostium staret, ignorantem Judam suo ambiebat exercitu. While he spoke these things, Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind him. And while he stood facing the enemies, he encompassed Juda, who perceived it not, with his army.
And Asa had in his army of men that bore shields and spears of Juda three hundred thousand, and of Benjamin that bore shields and drew bows, two hundred and eighty thousand, all these were most valiant men.
And Zara the Ethiopian came out against them with his army of ten hundred thousand men, and with three hundred chariots: and he came as far as Maresa.
2_Paralipomenon 14 10 Porro Asa perrexit obviam ei, et instruxit aciem ad bellum in valle Sephata, quae est juxta Maresa : And Asa went out to meet him, and set his army in array for battle in the vale of Sephata, which is near Maresa: Καὶ ἐβόησεν Ἀσὰ πρὸς Κύριον Θεὸν αὐτοῦ, καὶ εἶπε, Κύριε, οὐκ ἀδυνατεῖ παρὰ σοὶ σώζειν ἐν πολλοῖς καὶ ἐν ὀλίγοις· κατίσχυσον ἡμᾶς Κύριε ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν, ὅτι ἐπὶ σοὶ πεποιθαμεν, καὶ ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί σου ἤλθομεν ἐπὶ τὸ πλῆθος τὸ πολὺ τοῦτο· Κύριε ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν, μὴ κατισχυσάτω πρὸς σὲ ἄνθρωπος.
Tulerunt ergo spolia multa, And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them to Gerara: and the Ethiopians fell even to utter destruction, for the Lord slew them, and his army fought against them, and they were destroyed. And they took abundance of spoils, Καὶ ἐξέκοψαν τὰς κώμας αὐτῶν κύκλῳ Γεδὼρ, ὅτι ἐγενήθη ἔκστασις Κυρίου ἐπʼ αὐτοὺς, καὶ ἐσκύλευσαν πάσας τὰς πόλεις αὐτῶν, ὅτι πολλὰ σκῦλα ἐγενήθη αὐτοῖς.
At that time Hanani the prophet came to Asa king of Juda, and said to him: Because thou hast had confidence in the king of Syria, and not in the Lord thy God, therefore hath the army of the king of Syria escaped out of thy hand.
Of whom this is the number of the houses and families of every one: in Juda captains of the army, Ednas the chief, and with him three hundred thousand most valiant men.
2_Paralipomenon 18 18 At ille : Idcirco, ait, audite verbum Domini : vidi Dominum sedentem in solio suo, et omnem exercitum caeli assistentem ei a dextris et a sinistris. Then he said: Hear ye therefore the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on the right hand and on the left, Καὶ εἶπεν, οὐχ οὕτως· ἀκούσατε λόγον Κυρίου.
2_Paralipomenon 20 21 Deditque consilium populo, et statuit cantores Domini ut laudarent eum in turmis suis, et antecederent exercitum, ac voce consona dicerent : Confitemini Domino quoniam in aeternum misericordia ejus. And he gave counsel to the people, and appointed the singing men of the Lord, to praise him by their companies, and to go before the army, and with one voice to say: Give glory to the Lord, for his mercy endureth for ever.
Praecepitque sacerdos ne occideretur in domo Domini, And Joiada the high priest going out to the captains, and the chiefs of the army, said to them: Take her forth without the precinct of the temple, and when she is without let her be killed with the sword. For the priest commanded that she should not be killed in the house of the Lord.
2_Paralipomenon 24 23 Cumque evolutus esset annus, ascendit contra eum exercitus Syriae : venitque in Judam et Jerusalem, et interfecit cunctos principes populi, atque universam praedam miserunt regi in Damascum. And when a year was come about, the army of Syria came up against him: and they came to Juda and Jerusalem, and killed all the princes of the people, and they sent all the spoils to the king of Damascus.
But a man of God came to him, and said: O king, let not the army of Israel go out with thee, for the Lord is not with Israel, and all the children of Ephraim: Καὶ ἄνθρωπος τοῦ Θεοῦ ἦλθε πρὸς αὐτὸν, λέγων, βασιλεῦ, οὐ πορεύσεται μετὰ σοῦ δύναμις Ἰσραὴλ, ὅτι οὐκ ἔστι Κύριος μετὰ Ἰσραὴλ πάντων τῶν υἱῶν Ἐφραίμ.
And if thou think that battles consist in the strength of the army, God will make thee to be overcome by the enemies: for it belongeth to God both to help, and to put to flight.
Then Amasias separated the army, that came to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: but they being much enraged against Juda, returned to their own country.
2_Paralipomenon 25 13 At ille exercitus quem remiserat Amasias ne secum iret ad praelium, diffusus est in civitatibus Juda, a Samaria usque ad Bethoron, et interfectis tribus millibus, diripuit praedam magnam. But that army which Amasias had sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, spread themselves among the cities of Juda, from Samaria to Beth-horon, and having killed three thousand took away much spoil.
And the army of his fighting men, that went out to war, was under the hand of Jehiel the scribe, and Maasias the doctor, and under the hand of Henanias, who was one of the king's captains.
And the whole army under them three hundred and seven thousand five hundred: who were fit for war, and fought for the king against the enemy.
And Ozias prepared for them, that is, for the whole army, shields, and spears, and helmets, and coats of mail, and bows, and slings to cast stones.
