36:2 Tolle volumen libri, et scribes in eo omnia verba quae locutus sum tibi adversum Israel et Judam, et adversum omnes gentes, a die qua locutus sum ad te ex diebus Josiae usque ad diem hanc :
*H Take thee a roll of a book, and thou shalt write in it all the words that I have spoken to thee against Israel and Juda, and against all the nations from the day that I spoke to thee, from the days of Josias even to this day.
Ver. 2. Write. He had already prophesied 22 years. Now he was more frequently ordered to write. C. — He executed the order by the hand of Baruch. v. 4.
43_2 Λάβε σεαυτῷ χαρτίον βιβλίου, καὶ γράψον ἐπʼ αὐτοῦ πάντας τοὺς λόγους οὓς ἐλάλησα πρὸς σὲ ἐπὶ Ἱερουσαλὴμ, καὶ ἐπὶ Ἰούδα, καὶ ἐπὶ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη, ἀφʼ ἧς ἡμέρας λαλήσαντός μου πρὸς σὲ ἀφʼ ἡμερῶν Ἰωσία βασιλέως Ἰούδα, καὶ ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης.

36:3 si forte, audiente domo Juda universa mala quae ego cogito facere eis, revertatur unusquisque a via sua pessima, et propitius ero iniquitati et peccato eorum.
*H If so be, when the house of Juda shall hear all the evils that I purpose to do unto them, that they may return every man from his wicked way: and I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin.
Ver. 3. If. This indicates free-will. H. — God makes this last effort, that the hearing of so many separate prophecies together might make a deeper impression.
43_3 Ἴσως ἀκούσεται ὁ οἶκος Ἰούδα πάντα τὰ κακὰ ἃ ἐγὼ λογίζομαι ποιῆσαι αὐτοῖς, ἵνα ἀποστρέψωσιν ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ αὐτῶν τῆς πονηρᾶς, καὶ ἵλεως ἔσομαι ταῖς ἀδικίαις αὐτῶν καὶ ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις αὐτῶν.

36:4 Vocavit ergo Jeremias Baruch filium Neriae : et scripsit Baruch ex ore Jeremiae omnes sermones Domini quos locutus est ad eum, in volumine libri :
*H So Jeremias called Baruch the son of Nerias: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremias all the words of the Lord, which he spoke to him, upon the roll of a book.
Ver. 4. Book. This was afterwards burnt. What he wrote a second time has not come down to us, in the same order. Jeremias made us of his memory, which was directed by the Holy Spirit. C.
43_4 Καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Ἱερεμίας τὸν Βαροὺχ υἱὸν Νηρίου· καὶ ἔγραψεν ἀπὸ στόματος Ἱερεμίου πάντας τοὺς λόγους Κυρίου, οὓς ἐλάλησε πρὸς αὐτὸν, εἰς χαρτίον βιβλίου.

36:5 et praecepit Jeremias Baruch, dicens : Ego clausus sum, nec valeo ingredi domum Domini.
*H And Jeremias commanded Baruch, saying: I am shut up, and cannot go into the house of the Lord.
Ver. 5. Shut up. Not that the prophet was now in prison; for the contrary appears from v. 19. but that he kept himself shut up, by reason of the persecutions he had lately met with. See chap. xxvi. Ch. — If he had been confined, as Grotius asserts, the king would easily have found him. C. — He and Baruch retired to some secret place, as most priests (W.) did formerly in England, (H.) that they might better exercise their functions than they could do in the hands of the persecutors. 43_5 Καὶ ἐνετείλατο Ἱερεμίας τῷ Βαροὺχ, λέγων, ἐγὼ φυλάσσομαι, οὐ μὴ δύνωμαι εἰσελθεῖν εἰς οἶκον Κυρίου·
וַ/יְצַוֶּ֣ה יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ אֶת בָּר֖וּךְ לֵ/אמֹ֑ר אֲנִ֣י עָצ֔וּר לֹ֣א אוּכַ֔ל לָ/ב֖וֹא בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה
36:6 Ingredere ergo tu, et lege de volumine in quo scripsisti ex ore meo verba Domini, audiente populo in domo Domini, in die jejunii : insuper et audiente universo Juda qui veniunt de civitatibus suis, leges eis,
*H Go thou in therefore, and read out of the volume, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the Lord, in the hearing of all the people in the house of the Lord on the fasting day: and also thou shalt read them in the hearing of all Juda that come out of their cities:

43_6 Καὶ ἀναγνώσῃ ἐν τῷ χαρτίῳ τούτῳ εἰς τὰ ὦτα τοῦ λαοῦ ἐν οἴκῳ Κυρίου, ἐν ἡμέρᾳ νηστείας, καὶ ἐν ὠσὶ παντὸς Ἰούδα τῶν ἐρχομένων ἐκ πόλεων αὐτῶν, ἀναγνώσῃ αὐτοῖς.

36:7 si forte cadat oratio eorum in conspectu Domini, et revertatur unusquisque a via sua pessima : quoniam magnus furor et indignatio est quam locutus est Dominus adversus populum hunc.
*H If so be they may present their supplication before the Lord, and may return every one from his wicked way: for great is the wrath and indignation which the Lord hath pronounced against this people.
Ver. 7. They. Lit. "their supplication may fall prostrate before," &c. H. — It is personified. So Homer represents (C.) "supplications," as daughters of Jupiter, lame, and with eyes averted, (Il. ix.) to shew how we ought to pray. Jeremias finds means to instruct the people: the word of God is not bound. 2 Tim. ii. 9. C. — As many refused to hear his discourses, God ordered him to write what might be a perpetual warning and reproach, or testimony against them. W.
43_7 Ἴσως πεσεῖται ἔλεος αὐτῶν κατὰ πρόσωπον Κυρίου, καὶ ἀποστρέψουσιν ἐκ τῆς ὁδοῦ αὐτῶν τῆς πονηρᾶς, ὅτι μέγας ὁ θυμὸς καὶ ἡ ὀργὴ Κυρίου, ἣν ἐλάλησεν ἐπὶ τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον.

36:8 Et fecit Baruch filius Neriae juxta omnia quae praeceperat ei Jeremias propheta, legens ex volumine sermones Domini in domo Domini.
And Baruch the son of Nerias did according to all that Jeremias the prophet ,had commanded him, reading out of the volume the words of the Lord in the house of the Lord.
43_8 Καὶ ἐποίησε Βαροὺχ κατὰ πάντα ἃ ἐνετείλατο αὐτῷ Ἱερεμίας, τοῦ ἀναγνῶναι ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ τοὺς λόγους Κυρίου ἐν οἴκῳ Κυρίου.
וַ/יַּ֗עַשׂ בָּרוּךְ֙ בֶּן נֵ֣רִיָּ֔ה כְּ/כֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר צִוָּ֖/הוּ יִרְמְיָ֣הוּ הַ/נָּבִ֑יא לִ/קְרֹ֥א בַ/סֵּ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה בֵּ֥ית יְהֹוָֽה
36:9 Factum est autem in anno quinto Joakim filii Josiae regis Juda, in mense nono : praedicaverunt jejunium in conspectu Domini omni populo in Jerusalem, et universae multitudini quae confluxerat de civitatibus Juda in Jerusalem.
*H And it came to pass in the fifth year of Joakim the son of Josias king of Juda, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the Lord to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that were come together out of the cities of Juda to Jerusalem.
Ver. 9. Fast. Probably on account of the catastrophe the second year. Dan. i. 2. Many such were afterwards appointed. Zac. vii. 3. and viii. 19. All came to Jerusalem on such occasions.
43_9 Καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐν τῷ ἔτει τῷ ὀγδόῳ τῷ βασιλεῖ Ἰωακεὶμ ἐν τῷ μηνὶ τῷ ἐννάτῳ, ἐξεκκλησίασαν νηστείαν κατὰ πρόσωπον Κυρίου πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ, καὶ οἴκος Ἰούδα.
וַ/יְהִ֣י בַ/שָּׁנָ֣ה הַ֠/חֲמִשִׁית לִ/יהוֹיָקִ֨ים בֶּן יֹאשִׁיָּ֤הוּ מֶֽלֶךְ יְהוּדָה֙ בַּ/חֹ֣דֶשׁ הַ/תְּשִׁעִ֔י קָרְא֨וּ צ֜וֹם לִ/פְנֵ֧י יְהוָ֛ה כָּל הָ/עָ֖ם בִּ/ירֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְ/כָל הָ/עָ֗ם הַ/בָּאִ֛ים מֵ/עָרֵ֥י יְהוּדָ֖ה בִּ/ירוּשָׁלִָֽם
36:10 Legitque Baruch ex volumine sermones Jeremiae in domo Domini, in gazophylacio Gamariae filii Saphan scribae, in vestibulo superiori, in introitu portae novae domus Domini, audiente omni populo.
*H And Baruch read out of the volume the words of Jeremias in the house of the Lord, in the treasury of Gamarias the son of Saphan the scribe, in the upper court, in the entry of the new gate of the house of the Lord, in the hearing of all the people.

43_10 Καὶ ἀνεγίνωσκε Βαροὺχ ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ τοὺς λόγους Ἱερεμίου ἐν οἴκῳ Κυρίου, ἐν οἴκῳ Γαμαρίου υἱοῦ Σαφὰν τοῦ γραμματέως, ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ τῇ ἐπάνω ἐν προθύροις πύλης τοῦ οἴκου Κυρίου τῆς καινῆς, καὶ ἐν ὠσὶ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ.

36:11 Cumque audisset Michaeas filius Gamariae filii Saphan omnes sermones Domini ex libro,
And when Micheas the son of Gamarias the son of Saphan had heard out of the book all the words of the Lord,
43_11 Καὶ ἤκουσε Μιχαίας υἱὸς Γαμαρίου υἱοῦ Σαφὰν ἅπαντας τοὺς λόγους Κυρίου, ἐκ τοῦ βιβλίου·
וַ֠/יִּשְׁמַ֗ע מִכָ֨יְהוּ בֶן גְּמַרְיָ֧הוּ בֶן שָׁפָ֛ן אֶת כָּל דִּבְרֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה מֵ/עַ֥ל הַ/סֵּֽפֶר
36:12 descendit in domum regis, ad gazophylacium scribae, et ecce ibi omnes principes sedebant : Elisama scriba, et Dalaias filius Semeiae, et Elnathan filius Achobor, et Gamarias filius Saphan, et Sedecias filius Hananiae, et universi principes :
He went down into the king's house to the secretary's chamber: and behold all the princes sat there, Elisama the scribe, and Dalaias the son of Semeias, and Elnathan the son of Achobor, and Gamarias the son of Saphan, and Sedecias the son of Hananias, and all the princes.
43_12 Καὶ κατέβη εἰς οἰκίαν τοῦ βασιλέως, εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ γραμματέως, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐκεῖ πάντες οἱ ἄρχοντες ἐκάθηντο, Ἐλισαμὰ ὁ γραμματεὺς, καὶ Δαλαίας υἱὸς Σελεμίου, καὶ Ἰωνάθαν υἱὸς Ἀκχοβὼρ, καὶ Γαμαρίας υἱὸς Σαφὰν, καὶ Σεδεκίας υἱὸς Ἀνανίου, καὶ πάντες οἱ ἄρχοντες·

36:13 et nuntiavit eis Michaeas omnia verba quae audivit, legente Baruch ex volumine in auribus populi.
And Micheas told them all the words that he had heard when Baruch read out of the volume in the hearing of the people.
43_13 Καὶ ἀνήγγειλεν αὐτοῖς Μιχαίας πάντας τοὺς λόγους οὓς ἤκουσεν ἀναγινώσκοντος Βαροὺχ εἰς τὰ ὦτα τοῦ λαοῦ.
וַ/יַּגֵּ֤ד לָ/הֶם֙ מִכָ֔יְהוּ אֵ֥ת כָּל הַ/דְּבָרִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁמֵ֑עַ בִּ/קְרֹ֥א בָר֛וּךְ בַּ/סֵּ֖פֶר בְּ/אָזְנֵ֥י הָ/עָֽם
36:14 Miserunt itaque omnes principes ad Baruch Judi filium Nathaniae filii Selemiae filii Chusi, dicentes : Volumen ex quo legisti, audiente populo, sume in manu tua, et veni. Tulit ergo Baruch filius Neriae volumen in manu sua, et venit ad eos :
Therefore all the princes sent Judi the son of Nathanias, the son of Selemias, the son of Chusi, to Baruch, saying: Take in thy hand the volume in which thou hast read in the hearing of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Nerias took the volume in his hand, and came to them.
43_14 Καὶ ἀπέστειλαν πάντες οἱ ἄρχοντες πρὸς Βαροὺχ υἱὸν Νηρίου, τὸν Ἰουδὶν υἱὸν Ναθανίου, υἱοῦ Σελεμίου, υἱοῦ Χουσὶ, λέγοντες, τὸ χαρτίον ἐν ᾧ σὺ ἀναγινώσκεις ἐν αὐτῷ ἐν ὠσὶ τοῦ λαοῦ, λάβε αὐτὸ εἰς τὴν χεῖρά σου, καὶ ἧκε· καὶ ἔλαβε Βαροὺχ τὸ χαρτίον, καὶ κατέβη πρὸς αὐτούς.
וַ/יִּשְׁלְח֨וּ כָל הַ/שָּׂרִ֜ים אֶל בָּר֗וּךְ אֶת יְהוּדִ֡י בֶּן נְ֠תַנְיָהוּ בֶּן שֶׁלֶמְיָ֣הוּ בֶן כּוּשִׁי֮ לֵ/אמֹר֒ הַ/מְּגִלָּ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר קָרָ֤אתָ בָּ/הּ֙ בְּ/אָזְנֵ֣י הָ/עָ֔ם קָחֶ֥/נָּה בְ/יָדְ/ךָ֖ וָ/לֵ֑ךְ וַ֠/יִּקַּח בָּר֨וּךְ בֶּן נֵרִיָּ֤הוּ אֶת הַ/מְּגִלָּה֙ בְּ/יָד֔/וֹ וַ/יָּבֹ֖א אֲלֵי/הֶֽם
36:15 et dixerunt ad eum : Sede, et lege haec in auribus nostris. Et legit Baruch in auribus eorum.
And they said to him: Sit down and read these things in our hearing. And Baruch read in their hearing.
43_15 Καὶ εἶπον αὐτῷ, πάλιν ἀνάγνωθι εἰς τὰ ὦτα ἡμῶν· καὶ ἀνέγνω Βαρούχ.
וַ/יֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלָ֔י/ו שֵׁ֣ב נָ֔א וּ/קְרָאֶ֖/נָּה בְּ/אָזְנֵ֑י/נוּ וַ/יִּקְרָ֥א בָר֖וּךְ בְּ/אָזְנֵי/הֶֽם
36:16 Igitur cum audissent omnia verba, obstupuerunt unusquisque ad proximum suum, et dixerunt ad Baruch : Nuntiare debemus regi omnes sermones istos.
And when they had heard all the words, they looked upon one another with astonishment, and they said to Baruch: We must tell the king all these words.
43_16 Καὶ ἐγενήθη ὡς ἤκουσαν πάντας τοὺς λόγους, συνεβουλεύσαντο ἕκαστος πρὸς τὸν πλησίον αὐτοῦ, καὶ εἶπον, ἀναγγέλλοντες ἀναγγείλωμεν τῷ βασιλεῖ ἅπαντας τοὺς λόγους τούτους.
וַ/יְהִ֗י כְּ/שָׁמְעָ/ם֙ אֶת כָּל הַ/דְּבָרִ֔ים פָּחֲד֖וּ אִ֣ישׁ אֶל רֵעֵ֑/הוּ וַ/יֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ אֶל בָּר֔וּךְ הַגֵּ֤יד נַגִּיד֙ לַ/מֶּ֔לֶךְ אֵ֥ת כָּל הַ/דְּבָרִ֖ים הָ/אֵֽלֶּה
36:17 Et interrogaverunt eum, dicentes : Indica nobis quomodo scripsisti omnes sermones istos ex ore ejus.
And they asked him, saying: Tell us how didst thou write all these words from his mouth.
43_17 Καὶ τὸν Βαροὺχ ἠρώτησαν, λέγοντες, ποῦ ἔγραψας πάντας τοὺς λόγους τούτους;
וְ/אֶ֨ת בָּר֔וּךְ שָׁאֲל֖וּ לֵ/אמֹ֑ר הַגֶּד נָ֣א לָ֔/נוּ אֵ֗יךְ כָּתַ֛בְתָּ אֶת כָּל הַ/דְּבָרִ֥ים הָ/אֵ֖לֶּה מִ/פִּֽי/ו
36:18 Dixit autem eis Baruch : Ex ore suo loquebatur quasi legens ad me omnes sermones istos, et ego scribebam in volumine atramento.
*H And Baruch said to them: With his mouth he pronounced all these words as if he were reading to me: and I wrote in a volume with ink.

36:19 Et dixerunt principes ad Baruch : Vade, et abscondere, tu et Jeremias, et nemo sciat ubi sitis.
*H And the princes said to Baruch: Go, and hide thee, both thou and Jeremias, and let no man know where you are.
Ver. 19. Are. Thus they provide for the safety of the prophets, and perform their duty to the king.
43_19 Καὶ εἶπον τῷ Βαροὺχ, βάδισον, καὶ κατακρύβηθι σὺ καὶ Ἱερεμίας, ἄνθρωπος μὴ γνώτω ποῦ ὑμεῖς.
וַ/יֹּאמְר֤וּ הַ/שָּׂרִים֙ אֶל בָּר֔וּךְ לֵ֥ךְ הִסָּתֵ֖ר אַתָּ֣ה וְ/יִרְמְיָ֑הוּ וְ/אִ֥ישׁ אַל יֵדַ֖ע אֵיפֹ֥ה אַתֶּֽם
36:20 Et ingressi sunt ad regem in atrium : porro volumen commendaverunt in gazophylacio Elisamae scribae, et nuntiaverunt, audiente rege, omnes sermones.
And they went in to the king into the court: but they laid up the volume in the chamber of Elisama the scribe: and they told all the words in the hearing of the king.
43_20 Καὶ εἰσῆλθον πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν, καὶ τὸ χαρτίον ἔδωκαν φυλάσσειν ἐν οἴκῳ Ἐλισαμά· καὶ ἀνήγγειλαν τῷ βασιλεῖ πάντας τοὺς λόγους τούτους.
וַ/יָּבֹ֤אוּ אֶל הַ/מֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ חָצֵ֔רָ/ה וְ/אֶת הַ/מְּגִלָּ֣ה הִפְקִ֔דוּ בְּ/לִשְׁכַּ֖ת אֱלִישָׁמָ֣ע הַ/סֹּפֵ֑ר וַ/יַּגִּ֨ידוּ֙ בְּ/אָזְנֵ֣י הַ/מֶּ֔לֶךְ אֵ֖ת כָּל הַ/דְּבָרִֽים
36:21 Misitque rex Judi ut sumeret volumen : qui tollens illud de gazophylacio Elisamae scribae, legit, audiente rege et universis principibus qui stabant circa regem.
*H And the king sent Judi that he should take the volume: who bringing it out of the chamber of Elisama the scribe, read it in the hearing of the king, and of all the princes that stood about the king.
Ver. 21. Read it. This was the third time. It was in vain afterwards to destroy the book.
43_21 Καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τὸν Ἰουδὶν, λαβεῖν τὸ χαρτίον· καὶ ἔλαβεν αὐτὸ ἐξ οἴκου Ἐλισαμά· καὶ ἀνέγνω Ἰουδὶν εἰς τὰ ὦτα τοῦ βασιλέως, καὶ εἰς τὰ ὦτα πάντων τῶν ἀρχόντων, τῶν ἑστηκότων περὶ τὸν βασιλέα.

36:22 Rex autem sedebat in domo hiemali, in mense nono, et posita erat arula coram eo plena prunis.
*H Now the king sat in the winter house, in the ninth month: and there was a hearth before him full of burning coals.
Ver. 22. Winter-house. He was very magnificent, and had other apartments for summer. Though the climate was warm, fires would be useful in November. — Hearth. There was no chimney used, and the smoke went out by the door, or by holes at the top of the room, as we see in some old monasteries. C. — Charcoal was probably used. Bar. vi. 42.
43_22 Καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐκάθητο ἐν οἴκῳ χειμερινῷ, καὶ ἐσχάρα πυρὸς κατὰ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ.
וְ/הַ/מֶּ֗לֶךְ יוֹשֵׁב֙ בֵּ֣ית הַ/חֹ֔רֶף בַּ/חֹ֖דֶשׁ הַ/תְּשִׁיעִ֑י וְ/אֶת הָ/אָ֖ח לְ/פָנָ֥י/ו מְבֹעָֽרֶת
36:23 Cumque legisset Judi tres pagellas vel quatuor, scidit illud scalpello scribae, et projecit in ignem qui erat super arulam, donec consumeretur omne volumen igni qui erat in arula.
*H And when Judi had read three or four pages, he cut it with the penknife, and he cast it into the fire, that was upon the hearth, till all the volume was consumed with the fire that was on the hearth.
Ver. 23. Pages. Perhaps what was written on so many skins, (H.) or sheets of paper, pasted together, and rolled up; or there might be some marks to shew the different subjects, like the sections used in the synagogue, (C.) or our chapters; though we are assured that all was formerly written without any separation even of letters. 43_23 Καὶ ἐγενήθη ἀναγινώσκοντος Ἰουδὶν τρεῖς σελίδας καὶ τέσσαρας, ἀπέτεμεν αὐτὰς τῷ ξυρῷ τοῦ γραμματέως, καὶ ἔῤῥιπτεν εἰς τὸ πῦρ τὸ ἐπὶ τῆς ἐσχάρας, ἕως ἐξέλιπε πᾶς ὁ χάρτης εἰς τὸ πῦρ τὸ ἐπὶ τῆς ἐσχάρας.
וַ/יְהִ֣י כִּ/קְר֣וֹא יְהוּדִ֗י שָׁלֹ֣שׁ דְּלָתוֹת֮ וְ/אַרְבָּעָה֒ יִֽקְרָעֶ֨/הָ֙ בְּ/תַ֣עַר הַ/סֹּפֵ֔ר וְ/הַשְׁלֵ֕ךְ אֶל הָ/אֵ֖שׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֶל הָ/אָ֑ח עַד תֹּם֙ כָּל הַ/מְּגִלָּ֔ה עַל הָ/אֵ֖שׁ אֲשֶׁ֥ר עַל הָ/אָֽח
36:24 Et non timuerunt, neque sciderunt vestimenta sua, rex et omnes servi ejus qui audierunt universos sermones istos.
*H And the king and all his servants that heard all these words were not afraid, nor did they rend their garments.
Ver. 24. Afraid. They saw all without any concern, not believing that God spoke to them. They did not imitate Josias. 2 Par. xxxiv. 19.
43_24 Καὶ οὐκ ἐζήτησαν, καὶ οὐ διέῤῥηξαν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτῶν ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ οἱ παῖδες αὐτοῦ οἱ ἀκούοντες πάντας τοὺς λόγους τούτους.

36:25 Verumtamen Elnathan, et Dalaias, et Gamarias, contradixerunt regi, ne combureret librum : et non audivit eos.
But yet Elnathan, and Dalaias, and Gamarias spoke to the king, not to burn the book: and he heard them not.
43_25 Καὶ Ἐλνάθαν καὶ Γοδολίας ὑπέθεντο τῷ βασιλεῖ, πρὸς τὸ κατακαῦσαι τὸ χαρτίον.
וְ/גַם֩ אֶלְנָתָ֨ן וּ/דְלָיָ֤הוּ וּ/גְמַרְיָ֨הוּ֙ הִפְגִּ֣עוּ בַ/מֶּ֔לֶךְ לְ/בִלְתִּ֥י שְׂרֹ֖ף אֶת הַ/מְּגִלָּ֑ה וְ/לֹ֥א שָׁמַ֖ע אֲלֵי/הֶֽם
36:26 Et praecepit rex Jeremiel filio Amelech, et Saraiae filio Ezriel, et Selemiae filio Abdeel, ut comprehenderent Baruch scribam, et Jeremiam prophetam : abscondit autem eos Dominus.
*H And the king commanded Jeremiel the son of Amelech, and Saraias the son of Ezriel, and Selemias the son of Abdeel, to take up Baruch the scribe, and Jeremias the prophet: but the Lord hid them.
Ver. 26. Hid them, and prevented any one from betraying them. C. — He did not remove them to a place different from what they had chosen by his direction. W.
43_26 Καὶ ἐνετείλατο ὁ βασιλεὺς τῷ Ἱερεμεὴλ υἱῷ τοῦ βασιλέως, καὶ τῷ Σαραίᾳ υἱῷ Ἐσριὴλ, συλλαβεῖν τὸν Βαροὺχ, καὶ τὸν Ἱερεμίαν, καὶ κατεκρύβησαν.

36:27 Et factum est verbum Domini ad Jeremiam prophetam, postquam combusserat rex volumen et sermones quos scripserat Baruch ex ore Jeremiae, dicens :
And the word of the Lord came to Jeremias the prophet, after that the king had burnt the volume, and the words that Baruch had written from the mouth of Jeremias, saying:
43_27 Καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος Κυρίου πρὸς Ἱερεμίαν, μετὰ τὸ κατακαῦσαι τὸν βασιλέα τὸ χαρτίον, πάντας τοὺς λόγους, οὓς ἔγραψε Βαροὺχ ἀπὸ στόματος Ἱερεμίου, λέγων,

36:28 Rursum tolle volumen aliud, et scribe in eo omnes sermones priores qui erant in primo volumine, quod combussit Joakim rex Juda.
Take thee again another volume: and write in it all the former words that were in the first volume which Joakim the king of Juda both burnt.
43_28 πάλιν λάβε σὺ χαρτίον ἕτερον, καὶ γράψον πάντας τοὺς λόγους, τοὺς ὄντας ἐπὶ τοῦ χαρτίου, οὓς κατέκαυσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἰωακεὶμ,
שׁ֥וּב קַח לְ/ךָ֖ מְגִלָּ֣ה אַחֶ֑רֶת וּ/כְתֹ֣ב עָלֶ֗י/הָ אֵ֤ת כָּל הַ/דְּבָרִים֙ הָ/רִ֣אשֹׁנִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָי֗וּ עַל הַ/מְּגִלָּה֙ הָ/רִ֣אשֹׁנָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׂרַ֖ף יְהוֹיָקִ֥ים מֶֽלֶךְ יְהוּדָֽה
36:29 Et ad Joakim regem Juda dices : Haec dicit Dominus : Tu combussisti volumen illud, dicens : Quare scripsisti in eo annuntians : Festinus veniet rex Babylonis, et vastabit terram hanc, et cessare faciet ex illa hominem et jumentum ?
And thou shalt say to Joakim the king of Juda: Thus saith the Lord: Thou hast burnt that volume, saying: Why hast thou written therein, and said: The king of Babylon shall come speedily, and shall lay waste this land: and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?
43_29 καὶ ἐρεῖς, οὕτως εἶπε Κύριος, σὺ κατέκαυσας τὸ χαρτίον τοῦτο, λέγων, διατί ἔγραψας ἐπʼ αὐτῷ, λέγων, εἰσπορευόμενος εἰσπορεύσεται βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος, καὶ ἐξολοθρεύσει τὴν γῆν ταύτην, καὶ ἐκλείψει ἐπʼ αὐτῆς ἄνθρωπος καὶ κτήνη;

36:30 Propterea haec dicit Dominus contra Joakim regem Juda : Non erit ex eo qui sedeat super solium David : et cadaver ejus projicietur ad aestum per diem, et ad gelu per noctem.
*H Therefore thus saith the Lord against Joakim the king of Juda: He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out to the heat by day, and to the frost by night.
Ver. 30. None, &c. Because his son, Joachin or Jechonias, within three months after the death of his father, was carried away to Babylon, so that his reign is not worthy to be taken notice of. Ch. 43_30 Διατοῦτο οὕτως εἶπε Κύριος ἐπὶ Ἰωακεὶμ βασιλέα Ἰούδα, οὐκ ἔσται αὐτῷ καθήμενος ἐπὶ θρόνου Δαυὶδ, καὶ τὸ θνησιμαῖον αὐτοῦ ἔσται ἐῤῥιμμένον ἐν τῷ καύματι τῆς ἡμέρας, καὶ ἐν τῷ παγετῷ τῆς νυκτός·

36:31 Et visitabo contra eum, et contra semen ejus, et contra servos ejus, iniquitates suas : et adducam super eos, et super habitatores Jerusalem, et super viros Juda, omne malum quod locutus sum ad eos, et non audierunt.
And I will punish him, and his seed and his servants, for their iniquities, and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Juda all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they have not heard.
43_31 Καὶ ἐπισκέψομαι ἐπʼ αὐτὸν, καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ γένος αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς παῖδας αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπάξω ἐπʼ αὐτὸν, καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Ἱερουσαλὴμ, καὶ ἐπὶ γῆν Ἰούδα, πάντα τὰ κακὰ ἃ ἐλάλησα πρὸς αὐτοὺς, καὶ οὐκ ἤκουσαν.

36:32 Jeremias autem tulit volumen aliud, et dedit illud Baruch filio Neriae scribae : qui scripsit in eo ex ore Jeremiae omnes sermones libri quem combusserat Joakim rex Juda igni : et insuper additi sunt sermones multo plures quam antea fuerant.
*H And Jeremias took another volume, and gave it to Baruch the son of Nerias the scribe: who wrote in it from the mouth of Jeremias all the words of the book which Joakim the king of Juda had burnt with fire: and there were added besides many more words than had been before.
