25:1 Et factus est sermo Domini ad me, dicens :
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
Καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος Κυρίου πρὸς μὲ, λέγων,

25:2 Fili hominis, pone faciem tuam contra filios Ammon, et prophetabis de eis.
*H Son of man, set thy face against the children of Ammon, and thou shalt prophesy of them.
Ver. 2-3. Ammon. These nations were punished five years after the Jews. C. xxi. 19. Jer. xxvii. 3. C. — "Egypt, Syria, Phœnicia, and Arabia," were conquered. Beros. — Hast. God saw their dispositions, which they manifested afterwards. C. — They rejoiced most, and were therefore punished with other nations. W.

25:4 idcirco ego tradam te filiis orientalibus in haereditatem : et collocabunt caulas suas in te, et ponent in te tentoria sua : ipsi comedent fruges tuas, et ipsi bibent lac tuum.
*H Therefore will I deliver thee to the men of the east for an inheritance, and they shall place their sheepcotes in thee, and shall set up their tents in thee: they shall eat thy fruits: and they shall drink thy milk.
Ver. 4. East; the Chaldeans, (Sanct.) who conquered them, (H.) though the Scenite Arabs, who occupied the country after the inhabitants were removed, or the Armenians and Agarens, are rather meant than the Chaldees. W.
διατοῦτο ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ παραδίδωμι ὑμᾶς τοῖς υἱοῖς Κεδὲμ εἰς κληρονομίαν, καὶ κατασκηνώσουσιν ἐν τῇ ἀπαρτίᾳ αὐτῶν ἐν σοὶ, καὶ δώσουσιν ἐν σοὶ τὰ σκηνώματα αὐτῶν· αὐτοὶ φάγονται τοὺς καρπούς σου, καὶ αὐτοὶ πίονται τὴν πιότητά σου.

25:5 Daboque Rabbath in habitaculum camelorum, et filios Ammon in cubile pecorum : et scietis quia ego Dominus.
*H And I will make Rabbath a stable for camels, and the children of Ammon a couching place for flocks: and you shall know that I am the Lord.
Ver. 5. Rabbath, the capital city of the Ammonites: it was afterwards called Philadelphia. Ch. — Flocks. These constituted the riches of those Arabians.
Καὶ δώσω τὴν πόλιν τοῦ Ἀμμὼν εἰς νομὰς καμήλων, καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἀμμὼν εἰς νομὴν προβάτων, καὶ ἐπιγνώσεσθε διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος.

25:6 Quia haec dicit Dominus Deus : Pro eo quod plausisti manu et percussisti pede, et gavisa es ex toto affectu super terram Israel,
For thus saith the Lord God: Because thou hast clapped thy hands and stamped with thy foot, and hast rejoiced with all thy heart against the land of Israel:
Διότι τάδε λέγει Κύριος, ἀνθʼ ὧν ἐκρότησας τὴν χεῖρά σου, καὶ ἐψόφησας τῷ ποδί σου, καὶ ἐπέχαρας ἐκ ψυχῆς σου ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ,

25:7 idcirco ecce ego extendam manum meam super te, et tradam te in direptionem gentium, et interficiam te de populis, et perdam de terris, et conteram : et scies quia ego Dominus.]
*H Therefore behold I will stretch forth my hand upon thee, and will deliver thee to be the spoil of nations, and will cut thee off from among the people, and destroy thee out of the lands, and break thee in pieces: and thou shalt know that I am the Lord.
Ver. 7. Lord, and that it was not through impotence that my people became a prey. Ammon and Moab returned after some time. v. 10. C. xvi. 53. Jer. xlix. 6.
διατοῦτο ἐκτενῶ τὴν χεῖρά μου ἐπὶ σὲ, καὶ δώσω σε εἰς διαρπαγὴν ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσι, καὶ ἐξολεθρεύσω σε ἐκ τῶν λαῶν, καὶ ἀπολῶ σε ἐκ τῶν χωρῶν ἀπωλείᾳ, καὶ ἐπιγνώσῃ διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος.

25:8 [Haec dicit Dominus Deus : Pro eo quod dixerunt Moab et Seir : Ecce sicut omnes gentes, domus Juda :
*H Thus saith the Lord God: Because Moab and Seir have said: Behold the house of Juda is like all other nations:

25:10 filiis orientis cum filiis Ammon, et dabo eam in haereditatem, ut non sit ultra memoria filiorum Ammon in gentibus.
*H To the people of the east with the children of Ammon, and I will give it them for an inheritance: that there may be no more any remembrance of the children of Ammon among the nations.

And I will execute judgments in Moab: and they shall know that I am the Lord.
Καὶ εἰς Μωὰβ ποιήσω ἐκδίκησιν, καὶ ἐπιγνώσονται διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος.
וּ/בְ/מוֹאָ֖ב אֶעֱשֶׂ֣ה שְׁפָטִ֑ים וְ/יָדְע֖וּ כִּֽי אֲנִ֥י יְהוָֽה
25:12 [Haec dicit Dominus Deus : Pro eo quod fecit Idumaea ultionem ut se vindicaret de filiis Juda, peccavitque delinquens, et vindictam expetivit de eis :
*H Thus saith the Lord God: Because Edom hath taken vengeance to revenge herself of the children of Juda, and hath greatly offended, and hath sought revenge of them:
Ver. 12. Revenge; exhorting the Chaldeans to destroy utterly, (Ps. cxxxvi. 7.) and seizing every opportunity of injuring the Jews. 2 Par. xxviii. 18. Amos i. 11.

25:13 idcirco haec dicit Dominus Deus : Extendam manum meam super Idumaeam, et auferam de ea hominem et jumentum, et faciam eam desertam ab austro : et qui sunt in Dedan, gladio cadent.
*H Therefore thus saith the Lord God: I will stretch forth my hand upon Edom, and will take away out of it man and beast, and will make it desolate from the south: and they that are in Dedan shall fall by the sword.
Ver. 13. South. Heb. "Theman," a city at one extremity. The Chaldeans laid waste the country, (C. xxxii. 29.) but did not remove the people, who seized the southern parts of Juda, till they were forced to submit to the Machabees.
διατοῦτο τάδε λέγει Κύριος, καὶ ἐκτενῶ τὴν χεῖρά μου ἐπὶ τὴν Ἰδουμαίαν, καὶ ἐξολοθρεύσω ἐξ αὐτῆς ἄνθρωπον καὶ κτῆνος, καὶ θήσομαι αὐτὴν ἔρημον, καὶ ἐκ Θαιμὰν διωκόμενοι ἐν ῥομφαίᾳ πεσοῦνται.

25:14 Et dabo ultionem meam super Idumaeam per manum populi mei Israel : et facient in Edom juxta iram meam et furorem meum, et scient vindictam meam, dicit Dominus Deus.]
And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel: and they shall do in Edom according to my wrath, and my fury: and they shall know my vengeance, saith the Lord God.
Καὶ δώσω ἐκδίκησίν μου ἐπὶ τὴν Ἰδουμαίαν ἐν χειρὶ λαοῦ μου Ἰσραὴλ, καὶ ποιήσουσιν ἐν τῇ Ἰδουμαίᾳ κατὰ τὴν ὀργήν μου καὶ κατὰ τὸν θυμόν μου, καὶ ἐπιγνώσονται τὴν ἐκδίκησίν μου, λέγει Κύριος.

25:15 [Haec dicit Dominus Deus : Pro eo quod fecerunt Palaestini vindictam, et ulti se sunt toto animo, interficientes, et implentes inimicitias veteres,
*H Thus saith the Lord God: Because the Philistines have taken vengeance, and have revenged themselves with all their mind, destroying and satisfying old enmities:
Ver. 15. Enmities. They also watched every moment to injure the Jews. Amos i. 5. But Nabuchodonosor was irritated, because they had assisted Tyre. Jer. xlvii. 4.

25:16 propterea haec dicit Dominus Deus : Ecce ego extendam manum meam super Palaestinos, et interficiam interfectores, et perdam reliquias maritimae regionis,
*H Therefore thus saith the Lord God: Behold I will stretch forth my hand upon the Philistines, and will kill the killers, and will destroy the remnant of the sea coast.
Ver. 16. Killers. Heb. "Ceretheans." David's guards were of this nation. 2 K. viii. 18. They came originally from Crete; and the Sept. have here, "Cretans;" (C.) as Grabe substitutes for "Judges of Sidon." H. — Chal. "archers." — Remnant. They deserve not the name of a nation, having been much reduced by Egypt and the Chaldeans. C.

25:17 faciamque in eis ultiones magnas, arguens in furore : et scient quia ego Dominus, cum dedero vindictam meam super eos.]
And I will execute great vengeance upon them, rebuking them in fury: and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them.
Καὶ ποιήσω ἐν αὐτοῖς ἐκδικήσεις μεγάλας, καὶ ἐπιγνώσονται διότι ἐγὼ Κύριος, ἐν τῷ δοῦναι τὴν ἐκδίκησίν μου ἐπʼ αὐτούς.
