Ver. 2. Day of vengeance, (C.) when the Lord shall judge, (1 Cor. v. 2.) and Egypt shall fall a prey to the most powerful nation of the Chaldees. W.
υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, προφήτευσον, καὶ εἰπὸν τάδε λέγει Κύριος, ὢ ὢ ἡμέρα,
בֶּן אָדָ֕ם הִנָּבֵא֙ וְ/אָ֣מַרְתָּ֔ כֹּ֥ה אָמַ֖ר אֲדֹנָ֣/י יְהוִ֑ה הֵילִ֖ילוּ הָ֥הּ לַ/יּֽוֹם
30:3 quia juxta est dies, et appropinquat dies Domini, dies nubis : tempus gentium erit.
For the day is near, yea the day of the Lord is near: a cloudy day, it shall be the time of the nations.
ὅτι ἐγγὺς ἡμέρα τοῦ Κυρίου, ἡμέρα πέρας ἐθνῶν ἔσται·
כִּֽי קָר֣וֹב י֔וֹם וְ/קָר֥וֹב י֖וֹם לַֽ/יהוָ֑ה י֣וֹם עָנָ֔ן עֵ֥ת גּוֹיִ֖ם יִֽהְיֶֽה
30:4 Et veniet gladius in Aegyptum, et erit pavor in Aethiopia, cum ceciderint vulnerati in Aegypto, et ablata fuerit multitudo illius, et destructa fundamenta ejus.
*H And the sword shall come upon Egypt: and there shall be dread in Ethiopia, when the wounded shall fall in Egypt, and the multitude thereof shall be taken away, and the foundations thereof shall be destroyed.

30:5 Aethiopia, et Libya, et Lydi, et omne reliquum vulgus, et Chub, et filii terrae foederis, cum eis gladio cadent.
*H Ethiopia, and Libya, and Lydia, and all the rest of the crowd, and Chub, and the children of the land of the covenant, shall fall with them by the sword.

Πέρσαι, καὶ Κρῆτες, καὶ Λυδοὶ, καὶ Λίβυες, καὶ πάντες οἱ ἐπίμικτοι καὶ τῶν υἱῶν τῆς διαθήκης μου, μαχαίρᾳ πεσοῦνται ἐν αὐτῇ.

30:6 Haec dicit Dominus Deus : Et corruent fulcientes Aegyptum, et destruetur superbia imperii ejus : a turre Syenes gladio cadent in ea, ait Dominus Deus exercituum.
Thus saith the Lord God: They also that uphold Egypt shall fall, and the pride of her empire shall be brought down: from the tower of Syene shall they fall in it by the sword, saith the Lord the God of hosts.
Καὶ πεσοῦνται τὰ ἀντιστηρίγματα Αἰγύπτου, καὶ καταβήσεται ἡ ὕβρις τῆς ἰσχύος αὐτῆς ἀπὸ Μαγδωλοῦ ἕως Συήνης, μαχαίρᾳ πεσοῦνται ἐν αὐτῇ, λέγει Κύριος.
כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה וְ/נָֽפְלוּ֙ סֹמְכֵ֣י מִצְרַ֔יִם וְ/יָרַ֖ד גְּא֣וֹן עֻזָּ֑/הּ מִ/מִּגְדֹּ֣ל סְוֵנֵ֗ה בַּ/חֶ֨רֶב֙ יִפְּלוּ בָ֔/הּ נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥/י יְהוִֽה
30:7 Et dissipabuntur in medio terrarum desolatarum, et urbes ejus in medio civitatum desertarum erunt :
And they shall be desolate in the midst of the lands that are desolate, and the cities thereof shall be in the midst of the cities that are wasted.
Καὶ ἐρημωθήσεται ἐν μέσῳ χωρῶν ἐρημωμένων, καὶ αἱ πόλεις αὐτῶν ἐν μέσῳ πόλεων ἠρημωμένων ἔσονται,
וְ/נָשַׁ֕מּוּ בְּ/ת֖וֹךְ אֲרָצ֣וֹת נְשַׁמּ֑וֹת וְ/עָרָ֕י/ו בְּ/תוֹךְ עָרִ֥ים נַחֲרָב֖וֹת תִּֽהְיֶֽינָה
30:8 et scient quia ego Dominus, cum dedero ignem in Aegypto, et attriti fuerint omnes auxiliatores ejus.
And they shall know that I am the Lord: when I shall have set a fire in Egypt, and all the helpers thereof shall be destroyed.
καὶ γνώσονται ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι Κύριος, ὅταν δῶ πῦρ ἐπʼ Αἴγυπτον, καὶ συντριβῶσι πάντες οἱ βοηθοῦντες αὐτῇ.
וְ/יָדְע֖וּ כִּֽי אֲנִ֣י יְהוָ֑ה בְּ/תִתִּ/י אֵ֣שׁ בְּ/מִצְרַ֔יִם וְ/נִשְׁבְּר֖וּ כָּל עֹזְרֶֽי/הָ
30:9 In die illa egredientur nuntii a facie mea in trieribus ad conterendam Aethiopiae confidentiam : et erit pavor in eis in die Aegypti, quia absque dubio veniet.
*H In that day shall messengers go forth from my face in ships to destroy the confidence of Ethiopia, and there shall be dread among them in the day of Egypt: because it shall certainly come.

Ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἐξελεύσονται ἄγγελοι σπεύδοντες ἀφανίσαι τὴν Αἰθιοπίαν, καὶ ἔσται ταραχὴ ἐν αὐτοῖς ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ Αἰγύπτου, ὅτι ἰδοὺ ἥκει.
בַּ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/ה֗וּא יֵצְא֨וּ מַלְאָכִ֤ים מִ/לְּ/פָנַ/י֙ בַּ/צִּ֔ים לְ/הַחֲרִ֖יד אֶת כּ֣וּשׁ בֶּ֑טַח וְ/הָיְתָ֨ה חַלְחָלָ֤ה בָ/הֶם֙ בְּ/י֣וֹם מִצְרַ֔יִם כִּ֥י הִנֵּ֖ה בָּאָֽה
30:10 Haec dicit Dominus Deus : Cessare faciam multitudinem Aegypti in manu Nabuchodonosor regis Babylonis.
Thus saith the Lord God: I will make the multitude of Egypt to cease by the hand of Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon.
Τάδε λέγει Κύριος Κύριος, καὶ ἀπολῶ πλῆθος Αἰγυπτίων διὰ χειρὸς Ναβουχοδονόσορ βασιλέως Βαβυλῶνος,
כֹּ֥ה אָמַ֖ר אֲדֹנָ֣/י יְהוִ֑ה וְ/הִשְׁבַּתִּי֙ אֶת הֲמ֣וֹן מִצְרַ֔יִם בְּ/יַ֖ד נְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּ֥ר מֶלֶךְ בָּבֶֽל
30:11 Ipse et populus ejus cum eo, fortissimi gentium, adducentur ad disperdendam terram : et evaginabunt gladios suos super Aegyptum, et implebunt terram interfectis.
He and his people with him, the strongest of nations, shall be brought to destroy the land: and they shall draw their swords upon Egypt: and shall fill the land with the slain.
αὐτοῦ καὶ τοῦ λαοῦ αὐτοῦ, λοιμοὶ ἀπὸ ἐθνῶν ἀπεσταλμένοι ἀπολέσαι γῆν· καὶ ἐκκενώσουσι πάντες τὰς μαχαίρας αὐτῶν ἐπʼ Αἴγυπτον, καὶ πλησθήσεται ἡ γῆ τραυματιῶν,
ה֠וּא וְ/עַמּ֤/וֹ אִתּ/וֹ֙ עָרִיצֵ֣י גוֹיִ֔ם מֽוּבָאִ֖ים לְ/שַׁחֵ֣ת הָ/אָ֑רֶץ וְ/הֵרִ֤יקוּ חַרְבוֹתָ/ם֙ עַל מִצְרַ֔יִם וּ/מָלְא֥וּ אֶת הָ/אָ֖רֶץ חָלָֽל
30:12 Et faciam alveos fluminum aridos, et tradam terram in manus pessimorum : et dissipabo terram et plenitudinem ejus manu alienorum : ego Dominus locutus sum.
*H And I will make the channels of the rivers dry, and will deliver the land into the hand of the wicked: and will lay waste the land and all that is therein by the hands of strangers, I the Lord have spoken it.
Ver. 12. Dry. The canals were obstructed (C.) which rendered cavalry useless. Herod. ii. 108.
καὶ δώσω τοὺς ποταμοὺς αὐτῶν ἐρήμους, καὶ ἀπολῶ τὴν γῆν, καὶ τὸ πλήρωμα αὐτῆς ἐν χερσὶν ἀλλοτρίων, ἐγὼ Κύριος λελάληκα.
וְ/נָתַתִּ֤י יְאֹרִים֙ חָֽרָבָ֔ה וּ/מָכַרְתִּ֥י אֶת הָ/אָ֖רֶץ בְּ/יַד רָעִ֑ים וַ/הֲשִׁמֹּתִ֞י אֶ֤רֶץ וּ/מְלֹאָ/הּ֙ בְּ/יַד זָרִ֔ים אֲנִ֥י יְהוָ֖ה דִּבַּֽרְתִּי
30:13 Haec dicit Dominus Deus : Et disperdam simulacra, et cessare faciam idola de Memphis : et dux de terra Aegypti non erit amplius, et dabo terrorem in terra Aegypti.

Ver. 13. Memphis, the capital of Lower Egypt, (C.) where the idol or bull (H.) Apis was fed. C. — Here Amasis overcame Apries. Herod. ii. 168. — The Chaldees made war on the gods as well as on the people. — Prince Amasis was tributary to Babylon. Some of this probably regards the times of Cambyses and Ochus. Usher, A. 3478 and 3653. C. See C. xxix. 14. H.

כֹּֽה אָמַ֞ר אֲדֹנָ֣/י יְהוִ֗ה וְ/הַאֲבַדְתִּ֨י גִלּוּלִ֜ים וְ/הִשְׁבַּתִּ֤י אֱלִילִים֙ מִ/נֹּ֔ף וְ/נָשִׂ֥יא מֵ/אֶֽרֶץ מִצְרַ֖יִם לֹ֣א יִֽהְיֶה ע֑וֹד וְ/נָתַתִּ֥י יִרְאָ֖ה בְּ/אֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם
30:14 Et disperdam terram Phathures, et dabo ignem in Taphnis, et faciam judicia in Alexandria.
*H And I will destroy the land of Phatures, and will make a fire in Taphnis, and will execute judgments in Alexandria.
Ver. 14. Taphnis, or Tanis, famous for the miracles of Moses. C. — Alexandria. In the Heb. No, which was the ancient name of that city, which was afterwards rebuilt by Alexander the Great, and from his name called Alexandria. Ch. — Sept. "Memphis or Diospolis;" (C.) or Thebes, capital of Higher Egypt; (Boch.) though it seems rather a maritime town. Nah. iii. 8. C.
Καὶ ἀπολῶ γῆν Φαθωρῆς, καὶ δώσω πῦρ ἐπὶ Τάνιν, καὶ ποιήσω ἐκδίκησιν ἐν Διοσπόλει.
וַ/הֲשִׁמֹּתִי֙ אֶת פַּתְר֔וֹס וְ/נָתַ֥תִּי אֵ֖שׁ בְּ/צֹ֑עַן וְ/עָשִׂ֥יתִי שְׁפָטִ֖ים בְּ/נֹֽא
30:15 Et effundam indignationem meam super Pelusium, robur Aegypti, et interficiam multitudinem Alexandriae.
*H And I will pour out my indignation upon Pelusium the strength of Egypt, and will cut off the multitude of Alexandria.
Ver. 15. Pelusium. Heb. Sin, (H.) "muddy," has the same import as πηλος. Χ. emdash ~ The place is now called Damietta. H.
Καὶ ἐκχεῶ τὸν θυμόν μου ἐπὶ Σαὶν τὴν ἰσχὺν Αἰγύπτου, καὶ ἀπολῶ τὸ πλῆθος Μέμφεως,
וְ/שָׁפַכְתִּ֣י חֲמָתִ֔/י עַל סִ֖ין מָע֣וֹז מִצְרָ֑יִם וְ/הִכְרַתִּ֖י אֶת הֲמ֥וֹן נֹֽא
30:16 Et dabo ignem in Aegypto : quasi parturiens dolebit Pelusium, et Alexandria erit dissipata, et in Memphis angustiae quotidianae.
And I will make a fire in Egypt: Pelusium shall be in pain like a woman in labour, and Alexandria shall be laid waste, and in Memphis there shall be daily distresses.
καὶ δώσω πῦρ ἐπʼ Αἴγυπτον, καὶ ταραχῇ ταραχθήσεται ἡ Συήνη, καὶ ἐν Διοσπόλει ἔσται ἔκρηγμα, καὶ διαχυθήσεται ὕδατα.
וְ/נָתַ֤תִּי אֵשׁ֙ בְּ/מִצְרַ֔יִם ח֤וּל תחיל תָּחוּל֙ סִ֔ין וְ/נֹ֖א תִּהְיֶ֣ה לְ/הִבָּקֵ֑עַ וְ/נֹ֖ף צָרֵ֥י יוֹמָֽם
30:17 Juvenes Heliopoleos et Bubasti gladio cadent, et ipsae captivae ducentur.
The young men of Heliopolis, and of Bubastus shall fall by the sword, and they themselves shall go into captivity.
Νεανίσκοι Ἡλιουπόλεως καὶ Βουβάστου ἐν μαχαίρᾳ πεσοῦνται, καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες ἐν αἰχμαλωσίᾳ πορεύσονται,
בַּח֥וּרֵי אָ֛וֶן וּ/פִי בֶ֖סֶת בַּ/חֶ֣רֶב יִפֹּ֑לוּ וְ/הֵ֖נָּה בַּ/שְּׁבִ֥י תֵלַֽכְנָה
30:18 Et in Taphnis nigrescet dies, cum contrivero ibi sceptra Aegypti, et defecerit in ea superbia potentiae ejus : ipsam nubes operiet, filiae autem ejus in captivitatem ducentur.
*H And in Taphnis the day shall be darkened, when I shall break there the sceptres of Egypt, and the pride of her power shall cease in her: a cloud shall cover her, and her daughters shall be led into captivity.
Ver. 18. Darkened: war and misery shall ensue. — Sceptres, by dethroning Apries. — Pride; overflowing of the Nile. See Jer. xlix. 19.
καὶ ἐν Τάφναις συσκοτάσει ἡ ἡμέρα, ἐν τῷ συντρίψαι με ἐκεῖ τὰ σκῆπτρα Αἰγύπτου· καὶ ἀπολεῖται ἐκεῖ ἡ ὕβρις ἰσχύος αὐτῆς, καὶ ταύτην νεφέλη καλύψει, καὶ αἱ θυγατέρες αὐτῆς αἰχμάλωτοι ἀρθήσονται.
וּ/בִֽ/תְחַפְנְחֵס֙ חָשַׂ֣ךְ הַ/יּ֔וֹם בְּ/שִׁבְרִ/י שָׁם֙ אֶת מֹט֣וֹת מִצְרַ֔יִם וְ/נִשְׁבַּת בָּ֖/הּ גְּא֣וֹן עֻזָּ֑/הּ הִ֚יא עָנָ֣ן יְכַסֶּ֔/נָּה וּ/בְנוֹתֶ֖י/הָ בַּ/שְּׁבִ֥י תֵלַֽכְנָה
30:19 Et judicia faciam in Aegypto : et scient quia ego Dominus.]
And I will execute judgments in Egypt: and they shall know that I am the Lord.
Καὶ ποιήσω κρίμα ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ, καὶ γνώσονται ὅτι ἐγὼ εἰμι Κύριος.

30:21 [Fili hominis, brachium Pharaonis regis Aegypti confregi, et ecce non est obvolutum ut restitueretur ei sanitas, ut ligaretur pannis, et fasciaretur linteolis, ut recepto robore posset tenere gladium.
Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharao king of Egypt: and behold it is not bound up, to be healed, to be tied up with clothes, and swathed with linen, that it might recover strength, and hold the sword.
υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, τοὺς βραχίονας Φαραὼ βασιλέως Αἰγύπτου συνέτριψα, καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐ κατεδεήθη τοῦ δοθῆναι ἴασιν, τοῦ δοθῆναι ἐπʼ αὐτὸν μάλαγμα, τοῦ δοθῆναι ἰσχὺν ἐπιλαβέσθαι μαχαίρας.
בֶּן אָדָ֕ם אֶת זְר֛וֹעַ פַּרְעֹ֥ה מֶֽלֶךְ מִצְרַ֖יִם שָׁבָ֑רְתִּי וְ/הִנֵּ֣ה לֹֽא חֻ֠בְּשָׁה לָ/תֵ֨ת רְפֻא֜וֹת לָ/שׂ֥וּם חִתּ֛וּל לְ/חָבְשָׁ֥/הּ לְ/חָזְקָ֖/הּ לִ/תְפֹּ֥שׂ בֶּ/חָֽרֶב
30:22 Propterea haec dicit Dominus Deus : Ecce ego ad Pharaonem regem Aegypti, et comminuam brachium ejus forte, sed confractum : et dejiciam gladium de manu ejus,
Therefore, thus saith the Lord God: Behold, I come against Pharao king of Egypt, and I will break into pieces his strong arm, which is already broken: and I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand:
Διατοῦτο τάδε λέγει Κύριος Κύριος, ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐπὶ Φαραὼ βασιλέα Αἰγύπτου, καὶ συντρίψω τοὺς βραχίονας αὐτοῦ τοὺς ἰσχυροὺς, καὶ τοὺς τεταμένους, καὶ καταβαλῶ τὴν μάχαιραν αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῆς χειρὸς αὐτοῦ,

30:23 et dispergam Aegyptum in gentibus, et ventilabo eos in terris.
And I will disperse Egypt among the nations, and scatter them through the countries.
καὶ διασπερῶ Αἴγυπτον εἰς τὰ ἔθνη, καὶ λικμήσω αὐτοὺς εἰς τὰς χώρας.
וַ/הֲפִצוֹתִ֥י אֶת מִצְרַ֖יִם בַּ/גּוֹיִ֑ם וְ/זֵרִיתִ֖/ם בָּ/אֲרָצֽוֹת
30:24 Et confortabo brachia regis Babylonis, daboque gladium meum in manu ejus, et confringam brachia Pharaonis, et gement gemitibus interfecti coram facie ejus.
And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and will put my sword in his hand: and I will break the arms of Pharao, and they shall groan bitterly being slain before his face.
Καὶ κατισχύσω τοὺς βραχίονας βασιλέως Βαβυλῶνος, καὶ δώσω τὴν ῥομφαίαν μου εἰς τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπάξει αὐτὴν ἐπʼ Αἴγυπτον, καὶ προνομεύσει τὴν προνομὴν αὐτῆς, καὶ σκυλεύσει τὰ σκῦλα αὐτῆς.
וְ/חִזַּקְתִּ֗י אֶת זְרֹעוֹת֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֔ל וְ/נָתַתִּ֥י אֶת חַרְבִּ֖/י בְּ/יָד֑/וֹ וְ/שָׁבַרְתִּי֙ אֶת זְרֹע֣וֹת פַּרְעֹ֔ה וְ/נָאַ֛ק נַאֲק֥וֹת חָלָ֖ל לְ/פָנָֽי/ו
30:25 Et confortabo brachia regis Babylonis, et brachia Pharaonis concident : et scient quia ego Dominus, cum dedero gladium meum in manu regis Babylonis, et extenderit eum super terram Aegypti.
And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharao shall fall: and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall have given my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall have stretched it forth upon the land of Egypt.
Καὶ ἐνισχύσω τοὺς βραχίονας βασιλέως Βαβυλῶνος, οἱ δὲ βραχίονες Φαραὼ πεσοῦνται· καὶ γνώσονται ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι Κύριος, ἐν τῷ δοῦναι τὴν ῥομφαίαν μου εἰς χεῖρας βασιλέως Βαβυλῶνος, καὶ ἐκτενεῖ αὐτὴν ἐπὶ γῆν Αἰγύπτου.
וְ/הַחֲזַקְתִּ֗י אֶת זְרֹעוֹת֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֔ל וּ/זְרֹע֥וֹת פַּרְעֹ֖ה תִּפֹּ֑לְנָה וְֽ/יָדְע֞וּ כִּֽי אֲנִ֣י יְהוָ֗ה בְּ/תִתִּ֤/י חַרְבִּ/י֙ בְּ/יַ֣ד מֶֽלֶךְ בָּבֶ֔ל וְ/נָטָ֥ה אוֹתָ֖/הּ אֶל אֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם
30:26 Et dispergam Aegyptum in nationes, et ventilabo eos in terras : et scient quia ego Dominus.]
And I will disperse Egypt among the nations, and will scatter them through the countries, and they shall know that I am the Lord.
Καὶ διασπερῶ Αἴγυπτον εἰς τὰ ἔθνη, καὶ λικμήσω αὐτοὺς εἰς τὰς χώρας, καὶ γνώσονται πάντες ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι Κύριος.
וַ/הֲפִצוֹתִ֤י אֶת מִצְרַ֨יִם֙ בַּ/גּוֹיִ֔ם וְ/זֵרִיתִ֥י אוֹתָ֖/ם בָּ/אֲרָצ֑וֹת וְ/יָדְע֖וּ כִּֽי אֲנִ֥י יְהוָֽה
